Steel will deform easier than alloy but can be hammered back into shape in the field whereas alloy might be stronger to deformation but can crack making it useless. Steel can also rust whereas alloys are more resistant to corrosion.

I've broken a couple of alloy rims in my time. I've never broken a steel rim. Nuff said.

True, but for some reason there has been a huge lot of Polo rims that are bent or buckled recently. All steel.

With my Corsa LDV, one morning, I was paying more attention to traffic, than where I was driving. Knocked the paving head on with right front wheel, instantly killing the tyre. I thought the alloy will be dead too, but turned out to be fine
