    Default Lightweight drawer system

One of my customers wanted a drawer system for his hilux but did not want to spend the local asking price of around 20k , had to be low profile and light.

I have been using light plywood for a while as a sheet is only 15kg and very sturdy.

So Saturday morning we build a drawer, sealed it carpeted the drawer.

I now want to take my one out and also build the same as the steel units are very heavy and extremely difficult to move should you want to take it out

    Anyway some pics

Nicely done! What thickness ply did you use? Did you not use any slides for the drawers?

Plywood is totally underrated8) Use it with confidence!

-it is about the most versatile, cost-effective, easy to use, and structurally/thermally effective form of sheet/beam material available to everyman.( when properly used and weather-treated)

I have built a modular, full bin-depth multi-drawer system of 12mm plywood -very effective, durable, light, easy to fabricate/maintain-weighs about 55kg -incl. runners -for entire unit filling the bin of double-cab with a void only for 50l fridge, and 55l water tank. It is built in 5 manageable sections, which can work together-or individually and in various configurations.

It is held in place by big cable ties only -and its own packed weight-and it has never bounced around or moved in 20k km off-road travel!8)

Unfortunately it is packed away now, and no pics available

12mm ply, but its proper stuff imported

Used a very strong glue, not the ave stuff and drilled and screwed [more for the glue sake.

Runners are 1m heavy duty repon that can do 90kg on 500mm extended

Sealed with gripseal, gemken and heavier duty carpet.

    very well done.

The nice thing with the ply, you can add or change in the future and recover with carpeting again. You could even house a battery on the side where the lid is and add some powersockets.

My question too, where do you get the carpet? I am building a bed structure to sleep/store stuff on and cooler box etc under. I am using pine shelves.

Boat shops are a good start, but sometimes pricy.

In Voortrekker road in Pretoria is an automotive upholstery supplier, I canít remember the places name, but will stop by this afternoon and get the contact

Ek en n pel bou ook gou die naweek my drawer vir my Prado 120. Baie eenvoudig.
Die mikpunt is so lig as moontlik en goedkoop as moontlik.

Ek sal n foto of 2 plaas sodra klaar
