I want to try it out just for the heck of it, I also want to try RTTY and PSK31.
The thought of looking at how my computer talks to another computer doesn't excite me at all though, so I highly highly doubt I'll do the FT8 thing for very long.
As far as I know it's not that big in SA yet, I only know of a hand full of guys doing it, but it's big oversees.

I also heard the first digital CQWW digital contest will be held I think end of August, so it must be this weekend.
It's in pubs where the world's greatest ideas begin.

    thanks for reply.

i have been trough same :
who on earth would let PC to have all the fun when you can talk to actual people!?

i still prefer to talk but at dead of night in RSA there is nobody to talk to.
when propagation is as is now DX is out too.

that is the point where FT8 kicks in for me.
from Mongolia,Japan,to Alaska and Hawaii everyone is out there.
with only 50w on TX it is unbelievable how many people/PCs can actually hear me.
my 3 band yagi pointing straight to magnetic north(no rotation) and it seems that antenna direction does not make much difference
who on this planet can hear me.

not to remove fun from the hobby all logging i do manually.
