What is the general consensus re the best navigation software?

It seems that a Garmin Montana GPS with Tracks4A is high on the list. Routes can be planned via Basecamp on your PC and then transferred. This all flies in the face of what has has happened in the sailing industry where there has been a move away from chartplotters/Garmin type GPS and programs like Navionics are downloaded for use on iPhones or Android machines

The problem is that the Tracks4A app for mobile has terrible reviews?

I tried Maps.me in the Richtersveld over the last couple of weeks and it was pretty poor.

Would love to know what other Bushlapians have opted for
Hi Voyageur, seems like our paths have crossed a bit just recently. We have also just returned from 2 weeks in and around the Richtersveld. I cannot give you a consensus on navigation software, but just what I like to use. What works for me might not suit you.

Personally I love T4A and I use it both on my iPhone and iPad. All my trip planning happens on the iPad. But when driving I almost only use paper maps, including the T4A map book. Occasionally I might look at the T4A app on my iPhone just to confirm where I am. Navigating the Richtersveld is actually very easy once you understand the logic that the RT markers, numbered from 1 to about 19, are junctions and not routes. I also use the paper InfoMap Let's Explore Africa which are really good because they give you detailed GPS co-ordinates too.

Perhaps also have a look over at the GPS and Mapping section of the Forum where there are several of these discussions.

    Hi

T4A I take it stands for Tracks for Africa, how does the cell phone link to GPS Satellites

    Hi Dave,
The iPhone has built-in GPS. For my iPad I use a Garmin Glo GPS receiver which links via Bluetooth. An iPad with 3G would also have built in GPS capability.

    Hi

I did not know that. Eish: learn something every day.

So the best app to down load would be. Also this means I don't have to rush out and buy a GPS.

    Great

    Thanks

Morning all you Lovely Bush Lapa people.

Being a Lodge owner, I get quite frustrated expecially when I am going to spend a small fortune on a Caravan.

I have been dealing with a number of people at BL as well as the Sales Lady at Loftus Caravan- (She is great but not on the Ground) copy her in on my mails.

Who is the best person to deal with at BL. I was comunication with Loftus, but he has since left.

All I want is regular updates and some Photos of the build. Various Stages (Wife does scrapbooking so for my use only). Need to keep her happy??

Maybe I am being a pain in the Butt. Advice appreciated.

Try Francois or Wessel at Paarl. Martin is also good but moved over to the servicing department.

It is a bit of a predicament working via a dealer I suppose, because BLs are just one of the brands they sell so the high service levels aren't necessarily there. I'd also contact BL directly for updates. You just bought the van from a dealer; this doesn't imply you only need to work via them.
