Angry The uncontrolled price of diesel at filling stations

Maybe there is a simple answer that I don't know, but today again I noted that within a radius of 10 km, all Shell filling stations, the price of 50 ppm diesel varies from R 15.79 to R 16.23 per liter

Why can't they do the same as they do with the price of petrol?

Are you sure you want that.

Virtually everybody else is punting for uncontrolled fuel price so it can be discounted and you can shop around for best price.

Very strange to want to pay perhaps the highest price currently at any filling station. Bronkhorstspruit R14.89 for 50ppm. Cheapest in Centurion that I found is R15.20 at a BP.

Under R12 per litre if you fill up at engen and are on ebucks level 5 and take the R4,50c rebate per litre in ebucks into account.

Price controls may have been good long time ago but not now. As a result of them diesel drivers suffer due to poor quality diesel, refineries are outdated as the pricing mechanism doesn't allow proper cost for upgrades....

In several countries where there are no price controls you get an app giving price of fuel. It is called competition.

Well there's a new idea for those clever IT chaps - what about a app that wil show you the best prices +grades of diesel closets to your location.

Fuel stations have to co-operate as they have to send the info to the system.

If you on Discovery Insure you get up to 25% back (limits and stuff apply), either cash or to fund your excess. This also softens the price of diesel a bit.

I guess the other question is the quality of diesel in South Africa. Some might be cheaper but not necessarily better...

At what point can the quality of diesel be changed after it left the depot in the tanker for delivery?

Use the apps Pitstop to see fuel prices at various fuel stations. Varies from R13 to 16 something.

Tanker drivers replace diesel with paraffin and at least in case of 93 octane SASOL petrol with water.

One big problem especially in the case of diesel are dirty tanks.

Diesel produced by our old refineries is not what it should be.

The discovery rebate is really useless. Been there done that. The rebate applies to something like the first 2000 Rand per month spent, I use that up in a week.....

And fuel stations with cheap fuel will happily co-operate.

    I see legal problems however.

As mentioned earlier by someone else, load the Pitstop.co.za app. It gives you all the filling stations in your area and the prices of the Diesel. It is updated by the users so there is a possibility that it will not be completely accurate all the time but it is a good guide. Using this app I've been able to find the filling stations that are regularly the cheapest in my area and thus saves me money.
