Default Split pole plank wall cladding - any tips

    Hi guys,

Im considering cladding the one interior wall of our house with split pole planks (kindof like pallet wood planks, but not), so going for a bit of a rustic, but warmer feeling wall.
The planks that are available are 3 metres long, I will cut and use varying lengths, just to give some 'pattern'.

Im trying to work out the best way of attaching these planks to the wall. My current thinking is to attach a couple vertical planks to the wall with some pretty sturdy bolts and plugs, or rawl bolts, and then to attach the horizontal cladding planks to these verticals with screws, and then cover these screw holes, either with cut off dowels, or that paste stuff, think id prefer dowels though. I dont want to use nails, as it doesnt sit well with me to be applying hammering force of multiple nails onto the single brick wall.

Can you guys give me any tips, or advice on issues you foresee with this idea?

    Thanks!

Yes vertical planks and then nail gun using nails with small diameter heads, will go past surface of clading plank and due to size and the effect you want you don't have to fill the holes, the force also much less than a hammer thus no problem on the single wall.

Must say, this is a concern Ive been having - being out in the countryside our house is already a haven for all sorts of insects, reptiles, and animals, that space is going to attract some weird things I bet!

I have done the same with knotty pine against a wall. This week when I removed it I found some mice nests and what a nice place well hidden. I still don't know how they could get in as it was firm against the corner walls.
