    Default Touareg engine swap.

    Hi to all,

I am thinking of doing an engine swap for my v6 tdi Touareg with 1uzfe engine. Anyone has done it?

Marius did it with an R5 2.5l engine.

I think Stephan van Tonder swapped a V6 if I remember correctly.

But those were like for like engines. Not completely different engines.
The complex electronic system wil make it an extremely difficult task.

It seems that there is no problem to swap the same engine type in if the current one is bust. But when you try and do a conversion to non VW it will cause a lot of headaches

Why would you even consider something so daft?

And I'm pretty sure it's never been attempted before because its a terrible idea.

A while back, someone was trying to sell their failed conversion.

I think they finally parted it for spares.

Buying a new v6 engine from the agents and dropping it in will be cheaper.

Sadly my engine need to rebuild / overhaul. It costs 3x more than swapping a used v6 tdi engine. Looking for cheaper options, not only on engine price but also future maintenance. Saw vids in the Youtube on success engine swaps (1UZ / 2JZ) on Touareg, hoping for someone to share the success here if anyone has done it.

Think very carefully not to take the advice of some of the most knowledgeable people on this topic and go with something seen on YouTube. Donít do it. Get a used EQUIVALENT engine.

Thank you Kortgat for the feedback. So the only options will be a 3.0 V6 TDI or R5 2.5 TDI used engines as v8/v10 engines will cost as much as the engine rebuild.

The question now is the 2.5 going to be easier to maintain compare to the 3.0 tdi?

Either get a used motor, or rebuild yours. But first strip it down and do an assessment.

Scrap the car and buy another

Or put the same type (rebuilt or used) engine back in

Realistically those are your only two options.

Forget about putting any other engine in there. Trust me!

The ONLY option besides scrapping is the equivalent 3.0 V6 TDI, down to the engine model number BKS, CASA etc.. A 2.5 will not just go in there, there are major differences to control units, cooling, inter-coolers, aircon, everything actually...

You need to spend some more time on the topic to correctly understand the complexity involved.

What went wrong with your V6 TDI by the way, and how? Mileage?

You can find 3l v6 tdi engines around. I paid around R35k for one last year. Trust Me you cannot do another make motor swop for that. There is one russin youtube video of a 1jz on the net. Not hoardes of them. And theynalso had lots of unresolved issues that needed sorting. Including the controlling of the 4wd system. There are probably very few if any guys clever enough with electronic in this country to make that a success. And I won't even begin to attempt it.
i know of at least two that tried and ended up being parted out at the end of the day.

Out of curiousity. Rough cost from yourself to put in and get running etc?
