At the informal gathering at the Richards Bay Caravan park we discussed options for the next GTG for the year. So, after bouncing a few ideas of Riaan, we decided to do the GTG at Killarney in the Shongweni Valley (See here: http://www.killarney4x4.co.za/)

Having already visited there, I know that the camping site and ablutions are 5 star. There is opportunity for off-road driving and there are interesting obstacles close to the campsite where we can hone our skills. If there is enough demand, we can present a Level 1 training session as well. Other than this, we do not yet have a programme in place, but we would like to gauge interest in the weekend before we set off on making arrangements.

Killarney has provided the fee structure below:

    Day visitors:
    4x4, 4x2 vehicle entrance fee: R 110.00
Passenger vehicle entrance fee: R 80.00
    Adults entrance fee: R 60.00
    Children entrance fee: R 30.00
    (Ages 5-12 years)

Our Camping fees are as follows:
    Camping fees:
    4x4, 4x2 vehicle entrance fee: R 110.00
Passenger vehicle entrance fee: R 80.00
Adult per person per night: R 110.00
    Children per night: R 55.00
    (Ages 5-12 years)

And........it is my Skoko Markus's 60th burfday the Saturday

I just might let him use the Paj on the track, if he can pry The Blonde's pretty fingers away from the keys.

    Hello All

Here is a bit of info for our 4x4Community GTG. Nicolien at Killarney set aside an area where we can camp, but there are no reserved camping spots. You are free to set up camp anywhere you like. Someone from Killarney will be around to welcome you on Friday afternoon and you will have the opportunity to settle any outstanding dues.

So, after chatting with Riaan, we put together a provisional programme for the weekend. There will be no fixed time slots for activities and we will do things to fit in with the general flow of things.

On Friday evening we will set up camp and once settled in everyone can make their way to the boma for a meet and greet or to catch up with old friends. Riaan and I will have a fire going and I will bring charcoal if anyone prefer to use that. It will be a good idea to bring your own charcoal or wood anyway.

Saturday morning after breakfast we will make our way to the practise area close to the campground to hone skills and to make sure everything works properly. If there is enough interest I can do a talk about each obstacle before it is attempted. There will be guides at each obstacle to help out novice drivers.

Once we have the 4x4 drivetrains warmed up, we can head off to attempt the trails. This is entirely optional and as some sections have at least a level4 difficulty rating, we can decide which routes to follow. I will have recovery equipment but bring your own pump as it will be necessary to deflate tyres.

Once back at the camp, we can relax, unwind and perhaps have a shower to wash off dust. For the afternoon we thought to have a special interest activity. Riaan is negotiating with his suppliers to do a demo on the latest innovations in cordless powertool technology. This is not just for the guys as cordless tools are not limited to drills and screwdrivers anymore. This will not be a sales pitch and there will be no tools for sale.

Saturday evening we all meet at the boma again to review the day and to have a few cold ones. Once everyone is around the fire, we will have a prize giving. Riaan is working on getting a few sponsors to divvy up some prizes.

Sunday morning is at your own leisure to attempt one of the trails or to break up camp to go home.

Ok, this is all for now. Feel free to add comments or questions or to flick over a pm to me.
