    Default Driveway gate builders

    Hi guys

Im looking for a good gate builder at a reasonable price. Ive contacted 3 so far and i just cannot justify their prices. So far ive been quoted between R35k and R40k for a singe width sliding gate with motor and intercom!

    Any suggestions anyone please?

    Thanks

Whoever does it, make 100% certain it can't come off its rail or fall over.

    Bliksem.
Just a thought, Ive seen a couple gates lately that are just palisade fences with nice wooden slats put inbetween each palisade pole thing, doesnt look too bad, and I cant imagine that costing much at all?

Maybe you should tell us what you are looking for in terms of a gate is it just a palisade gate or something with scrolls and patterns?

Well it adds up. I recently built my own gate...

    D5 motor kit R5k
    Anti theft bracket R1k
Steel, wheels, paint and consumables easily R5k +
Electric fence contacts and sensors R1k
Cabling and electrical installation with new legislation requiring a circuit breaker at the gate motor (Mini DB), electrician, trenching and conduit, concrete for rail and posts / electrical cables. COC. R?k
    Intercom system R1- R2k

Then labour has not been included. I would say R15k just for manufacture of the gate is reasonable, then the installation is a time consuming exercise with trenching and having to wait for concrete to set so more than a day at the very least to install.
Traveling to and from the premises.

R40 does sound rough and I am sure it can be done cheaper but once you add up the above then the quoted prices makes more sense.

Yes... That's the problem... You can't expect to pay DIY prices, if you are not ACTUALLY going to do it yourself...

The break down you supplied puts everything in context...

I was just quoted a little under 9k for a security gate at the office with no automation. I don't object to the price as a business needs to make profit to survive, but I will be dusting off the Kempi and welding something up myself as it will be a nice project.

Next I want to make up some gates for my Folks place in Umhlanga, but that will be a galvanising job for sure. Cant leave anything out there without it rusting in minutes.
