Default Itís my Defender 90 2.8 thread

Well finding one of these little gems was tough. Travelled miles on end. Snatched from under my nose twice. Finally found what I was looking for.

Thanks to you guys! Had it not been for the advice from you, it would have been infinitely more difficult.

Cudos to all that responded here:

Nice and welcome to the 2.8 fold!

Where about in P-Town are you so that I can keep an eye out for you on the road?

Nice its the last model with the upgraded radiator! Enjoy. I really loved my 2.8 although it was a 110. That 90 is like a little go cart!

Good advice: pay good money and you will get what you want. ALMOST bought big trouble just to save a couple of bob. You get what you pay for.

Whilst on this subject, Iíve been told that itís not possible to insure my D90 for more than R 70 k. (Book value)Premium is around R480. Any advice?

Apparently, I need to get 3 dealerships quotes for the exact same asset that Iíd like to insure. Tough task seeing that they are so scarce.

That is one of the major challenges with owning older vehicles, you can compensate that for adding all the aftermarket extras that have been fitted to boost the insured value. Like towbars/bumpers/roof racks/radios etc. Some insurers limit the amount of add-ons you are able to insure to 25% of the vehicles value. Also make sure you insure at retail and not book value.

With older high demand/collectable vehicles like Defenders some insurers may be able to insure at a more market related value, you'd probably need a switched on broker to facilitate that, maybe someone on the forum could help, I've seen people mention Stranger for insurance.

Iíd love to hear what the rest of you guys did with insurance: what maximum value were you able to insure for and who is the underwriter?
