    Default Shops around Nguma Lagoon

We coming down from Caprivi Strip, camping at Nguma Lagoon,
I see we cross vet lines at Mbambi and Xhauga going south, so no meat or dairy.

Is there a shop near Nguma I can buy braai meat at ?
Even a bit South of it is fine because I can backtrack North with it a bit.

East - west in the Caprvi is not an issue now. You can take the meat any place except south thr' the so-called red line south of Rundu.

Divundu will have meat but not sure if they will confiscate at the Mohembo border or further down. Last time we passed there was no check point till close to Ganzi road.

I would think the only option is to buy at Divundi and cook it a bit to just change the colour. Cooked meat is allowed to take south thr' the check points.

Yip, you're basically screwed. Few years back the owners at Guma Lagoon told us they could bring some meat in from Maun if you order about 2 weeks ahead of time. We eventually scrounged some meat from next door Nguma Island Lodge, but it took some pleading and many Pulas for the lady there to part with some stock.

You can buy basics like beer etc at the small shops in the Etsha 13 villages, but if you aren't able to buy meat elsewhere, I would suggest arranging to eat at the restaurant at Nguma Lagoon, it's pretty good. They will, as far as I know, happily accommodate campers if you give them advance notice.

Yeah a bit further that I was thinking of going.....

Thanks I will have to make a plan for vegetarian, or eat at the restaurant.

Well there's a local business opportunity.

That depends if you are at Guma Lagoon Camp just south of the airstrip (the one reachable from Etsha 13 via the sand road) or Nguma Island Lodge just north of the airstrip (with its own gravel access road from the A35). Few years ago there were not much love lost between the two camps, seemed it was specifically about the use of the (private) gravel road. So if you camp at Guma make sure you will be allowed at Nguma's restaurant.
Edit: Correction, see Guma Lagoon Camp now also sport chalets and a restaurant.

I would say arrange for the braai packs before hand, otherwise you are not guarenteed they have when you get there.

We just carried the frozen 1 and/or 2kg packs of precooked ribs n sauce when travelling on this sections. No problems at the vet fence. A stack of Braai ribs go down really well with a few beers when camping...

We drove that route in December 2017. Also stayed at Guma Lagoon. No policing of red vet line, so it was ok to take meat across. My recommendation: take the precooked ribs as suggested. Also take some meat (for one or two nights) to last till you get to Maun. That way, if they do confiscate the meat, you have backup.

Iím a bit fussy on meat, and the braai packs at Guma just didnít do it for me.

Thanks for all the various inputs. I am waiting for a reply to an email directly to Guma Lagoon Camp about pre- booking braai packs, but also admit to having some qualms about what type and quality of meat such a pack might contain... I think the precooked ribs idea is an excellent one.
