Default 203 discovery 4 hse opinions?

Hi all never owned a landie but saw one at wbc with 156k on the clock for R256k. Sitting in it I love it and I have 5 kids so seven seats a must. I have just heard maintenance and repair work and reliability is an issue on these. I donr know if it's just hearsay or fact and was hoping for some honest opinions here please.

Alternative was a prado (pajero 3rd row seats just don't cut it)

    Thanks all

    2013 I assume. We have a 2012 and 2017. Love them both.

    service history?

i think on average they are less reliable than the Toyota. I’ve had few problems with the 2012- but it has been well maintained. It has 230k

having driven both landcruisers and those disco 4s I’m happy with my choice. Toyota is a great vehicle as well.

if you are in Gauteng, have overlandworx service it.

    worth every penny &
saving on maintenance. i have a d3 v8 and indies i spoke with before buying reported less than 5% engine failure rate compared to the diesels with the crank issue..

there are quite a few threads on this. but then again im biased now haha
156k im guessing the cam belt service is due.. that's around 20k from indies i believe? more from dealers?

    What he said.
Your total cost per Km in the V8 is still less than the TDV6 - I've had a few

Donít agree. There are a lot more 3.0 TDIs on the road than v8s

Correct - and I suspect when you look at reliability, there are more incidents of failure in the diesel for that reason, vice lower reliability. Donít have facts or research to back that up though.

Percentages will be higher on Diesel due to inherent design and manufacture flaws

Maybe in the TDv6. I donít think that is the case with the SDv6

SDV6's still break cranks, much less but they still do happen

sdv6 is the same engine as tdv6 just in a different config tdv6 has single turbo and sdv6 twin turbo.

Yes - exactly - and that post, as well as others, refers to a significant reduction in the number of catastrophic failures (such as broken cranks) between the TDV6 and SDV6.

out of interest sake, is there not some sort of insurance you can take out to cover the motor in full , or just the crank part. so if the crank goes you are covered.
