If the Mechanic buys them he is going to add a handling fee.

    Doing it yourself is cheaper.

If you supply the spares you carry the warranty.

The mechanic also gets wholesale/discount rates from midas, often a good 30-50% off the price they charge the public so in this instance it appears the mechanic is making a rather tidy profit on the parts.

I don't think I have ever had an issue with quality brand filters but if the mechanic supplies and fits the filters he's only going to cover labour to refit if they fail and even then any consequential damage as a result of the filter failing will be for the customers pocket. Though if the filters are supplied and fitted by the agents you may get marginally more joy in that situation but it's not guaranteed.

If the mechanic supplies and fits parts then he covers those parts with his warranty. In this case 6 months.

If I supply a faulty part then I am going to have to pay him to remove it. Why should he cover removal and reinstallation for something he didn't supply? Easier if you use a mechanic to let them supply everything, unless you don't trust them in which case don't use them, or you want a specific part.

But that's why I do a lot of work myself, it's much cheaper. Parts are cheaper, no labour costs and you at least know the work was done properly.
