Default KlipKrans Private Game Reserve & Camp Site

Wanting to find some info on this site.

Came across it some time ago and an quick and close outing from home for a weekend. Has anyone here been there and what are the facilities like?

Website does make it look like a nice place.

We camped there in Feb 2018. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Facilities were clean and functional, no problems with that.

In terms of actual camp sites, some are in full sun, and some are in lovely shade.

Activities, for the water sport enthusiast the camp is right against the Breede river. Fishing, swimming, kayaking, etc. Nice roads for MTB, and a relaxing 4x4 route with the bonus of seeing some game.

Reasonably priced, and close by, so not spending more on diesel than on the rest of the trip.

    Would I go back? Yes.

    I agree.
There is also a nice little route (grade 1) to drive with good views of the surrounding area.

We spent 3 nights about 2 years ago.

    Map.

Sites 1-5 are the "old" camp. They are much larger than the newer section, and each is more isolated from the newer section as well. We (13 adults, 9 kids) booked sites 1 and 2 and still had space for another 2 families probably, even with our vehicles parked within the sites. If you park a few metres around the corner you can probably squeeze even more in.

They have 2 kiosks that operate on an honesty basis for firewood, ice and other essentials, and the ablutions are clean and plentiful.

We were there in September and experienced very strong winds during the late afternoon early evening which died down completely by around 20:00, and then some heavy rain and wind during the early hours of Sunday morning. Despite this, everyone enjoyed the stay.

As mentioned by others, there is a mild 4x4 route where you might spot some game, especially leading up to sunset as we did.

Would absolutely go back again, no question.

Yes! That was probably the strong wind's only redeeming factor...

We have been to their 4x4 bush camp twice which is away from the river and main campsite but it has a nice lapa and enclosed braai area with grassed area to set up camp. It is very private an you book the whole spot for yourself. It has a flush toilet and hot shower. A short drive or walk takes you to your private access to the river.

The Bush Lapa get together in October will be held at Klipkrans so if it was voted to be the place, it must be quite good...

Was considering them for December, but wife does not like the overhead Eskom cables in the scenery or the bathrooms. They also do not have swimming pools for the kids and the stands are not shaded...

We have now spent a total of ten nights there.

Pros: The ablutions are up to standard, the stands are nicely grassed, and the fishing is so-so.

Cons: The wind and the gnats (muggies) - make your pick, if it is not the one you have to put up with, it is the other. But then, the Breede River Valley is known to be horribly windy at times, and in that part of the woods gnats and water goes hand in hand.
