Place is turning into Hong Kong

jokes aside, the metro police was confiscating fake goods from foreign shopkeepers and they decided to riot.

    Default Joburg riots

The SAP conducted a well planned escape retreat.
Fortunately none of the members were killed - though this was not due to a lack of effort on the part of the foreigners.....
This country is really in the sh$t if this is what 200+ generals can come up with... Assisted by our competent cadres off course...

Easy aces for foreigners to get into the country , then they open a shop and try to make a living , yes they sell fake goods , but lets face it , they are not the importers of these fake goods , lets say they were selling legit goods the police would not have acted this way , or would they ?
is it a hidden case of xenophobia, try and chase out the foreigners using the fake goods as the reason? If selling fake goods was the main reason its time to have better import control , and stop these goods from entering into the country.
If it cant be stopped then make a plan to get these traders to pay tax , if they pay tax then its a win for the country . As for fake goods , there will always be a buyer out there for it , I am sure there are many a member on this forum that has bought a fake something or the other , nobody is going to question you on the authenticity of the Levi jeans you are wearing , are they genuine or fake
Yes I am aware of the harm it has for the trademark , but again stop it from coming in , not stop it from being sold , if this statement makes sense , aware its more complicated but not keen to drag it out .

Well, lets focus on the positives here....

After many years of idleness, allowing these hawkers to grow like a fungus, the JHB metro police are finally taking action and confiscating these guy's things.

I have driven past two instances where I have seen police loading confiscated goods onto a truck.

I think we can safely say that this is because the DA heads the JHB municipality. Still a lot to do, but change is happening.

I personally welcome the metro police starting to do their work.

Good start, but they need to finish the job!
