Default Tyres for a Prado 150 3l Diesel

I have to get a new set of four tyres for my Prado. I currently have BFG KO's in 265/65/R18, but at at R4 000,00 plus they're too expensive and also overkill for my purposes. I drive 60% on tar, 30% on dust and maybe 10% offroad (mostly rocks, very occasionally sand and mud).

So, I've decided to go 265/60/R18 as they're more available and less expensive than 265/65/R18 by about a R1 000,00 per tyre (i.e. Hankook).

Here are the tyres I am considering:

Hankook Dynapro RF10, about R2 900,00 per tyre
Goodyear WRL AT Adventure, about R2 600,00
    Yokohama Geolander GO15, about R2 800,00
    General Grabber AT3, about R2 100,00
Michelin LTX Force, about R2 600,00

I require a strong sidewall, as at my age I would not like to have to change tyres unnecessarily due to sidewall cuts. The Goodyears apparently have kevlar on the face and sidewall of the tyre, which may help.

I'd appreciate any thoughts and advice ...

Geolander only got to 42k km before replacing on two Pajeros.
Was an ok tyre as far as road holding and noise were concerned.

I might be talking out my a$s here, but I don't think the Wranglers here have Kevlar in side walls. Especially not at that price. Think there is a thread around here somewhere, let me look for it.

For the difference of R4k total, I'd stick with your BFG's.

After getting 2 sidewall cuts on one trip with 'normal' AT tyres, i've learnt the value in that.

    Drive Out Tyre Test:

Might also help. The Wranglers seem good, but you expecting LT tyres performance from normal 2 ply side wall tyres.

You get what you pay for....

Ive just clocked 100,000 km on my Yokohama Geolander GEO12's. Fantastic tyre. Probably a 60/40 split road and dirt. Not sure what the GEO15 is like but can only guess it would be an improvement on the GEO12.I was also quoted R1950 / tyre on a GITI (Hankook Factory) which also has a 3 ply sidewall. Looks like a pretty decent dual tyre.Good luck with your decision.Simon

Thanks to everyone who responded. It was eventually between the Hankooks and Goodyear. Due to availability I went for the Goodyears. The article in the 4x4 magazine helped to finally swing it.
