Default KTP exit via Mabua to Gaborone via Khokhotsa?

How is the 120km road between the Mabua exit and town of Khokhotsa?

Mostly thick sand but we averaged about 60km when we did it in May this year, but there is a new section of about 20km where thanks to undulations we were reduced to 30km. We travelled in a Fortuner V6 no towing.

Have done it a few times, last was towing a caravan last year April. Mostly sand some minor soft patches, lots of corrugations. Beware of the dips in the track, very easy to bottom out your suspension and land hard.

Boring track 135km. Last fill up is in Bray (Bots side). The border road from Bray to Mafikeng is fair but slow, and when you get onto the tar near Tshidilamoloma it is terribly potholed and full of donkeys and cattle. Alternatively drive through Bray to Paddon via Vergelee but this road is terribly corrugated and not advisable. DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT

Alternative is to go via Hukuntsi. Turn left (North) when exiting the Mabua gate and travel straight about 140km. Road is very good gravel and you turn right when you get to Hukuntsi (tar) and head down via Sekoma, Jwaneng and Lobatse. Advantage is that you travel in Bots using their cheap fuel. R12.22 per liter of petrol. Not sure of the cost of diesel though. DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT
