    Default Wild coast trip

Hi , looking for info on proposed trip to Wild Coast in Mid Sept .

Travelling from Somerset West via Beaufort West , Graaf Reinett , Queenstown to Umtata . Then to Thombo and down to Mpande mouth , near The Kraal , where we have hired a cabin . From there we want to travel down coast on 4 x 4 route visiting Coffee Bay and hole in the wall , Dwesa reserve , Kob Inn ,Mazeppa Bay , Wavecrest , Trennerys then Kei Mouth and Morgans Bay . Travelling in two vehicles , Amarok and Ranger , both 4x4.

Will be alternating between camping and chalets , would appreciate following info :

Weather in september ( shows very little rain ?)
Conditions of 4x4 routes down coast .
Safety and security at night when over nighting down coast ?
Can one tow bush trailer down coast ?
Suggestions for camping /chalets on this route ? Mpande , Dwesa and Kei mouth only definites at present .
Any supply shops on this route ? Diesel ?
What permits are required and where to obtain ?
    Thanks

See my planned trip for December below. Will be towing a trailer and no problem to do that according to my research. There is also a thread below giving all the info and email addresses to apply for the permits needed. We have booked campsites at Mbotyi, Mdumbe, Coffee Bay, Dwesa-Cebe and Double Mouth. 2 or 3 nights at each place.
    Mahindra Scorpio Suv 2015 2.2 mHawk 4x4 7 seater
    Summit Everest trailer
    Mahindra XUV500 W8 2013

Weather in september ( shows very little rain ?). can get very windy,
Conditions of 4x4 routes down coast, varies, get Slingsby paper Map and check locals on the day. heavy rain is the problem as it washes bridges away..
Safety and security at night when over nighting down coast ? camp in recognised places only and never leave a vehicle alone. common sense.
Can one tow bush trailer down coast ? yes on all recognised roads, use slingsby map.
Suggestions for camping /chalets on this route ? Mpande , Dwesa and Kei mouth only definites at present . see previous post.
Any supply shops on this route ? Diesel ? not much available, see slingsby maps.
What permits are required and where to obtain ? see previous post.

Most tracks and roads are fine, but don't try to do too many kms between night spots, slingsby maps gives you estimated travel time.

and before you leave home google https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nongqawuse The cattle-killing frenzy affected not only the Gcaleka, Sarili's clan, but the whole of the Xhosa nation. Historians estimate that the Gcaleka killed between 300,000 and 400,000 head of cattle. and nearly wiped out a nation.

it happened near by, and worth a walk/drive and "boat" trip to the heads. interesting history.

And come for a beer at our farm, 12 out of kei mouth.
