    Default The cape of storm"s

Well, finally we are hit with massive rain storms, cold, windy and the dams are filling up.
I expect lots of collateral damage at places today.
I have to feel for those less fortunate who are in shacks, it cant be great for them.

This is actually a "normal" Cape Town winter but due to the drought, we haven't had a storm like this in a few years.

Indeed a very unpleasant experience with the wind creating havoc. Apparently lots of damage in the informal settlements. Yes I know it's a yearly thing - doesn't make it any easier. My roof didn't leak (for a change)

We should prepare ourselves for this type of weather. Wind gusting speed prediction at present is 90 km/h.
Monday it hits again with a predicted gust speed of 96 km/h.

This is normal whereas for the previous 3 years we had mild winters.

As deciduous fruit farmers we are also very much reliant on cold unit accumulation (vital for tree rest).
At the end of June we were behind on the average, but the past weeks and next week will push us ahead of average.

I grew up in Cape Town, but after living 10 years in Pretoria I moved back to CPT 2 years ago. the past two winters were not “winter”. This is the winter I remember from my childhood days

For me I could imagine nothing worse - cold AND wet. And then the wind as well. I was such an unhappy person over the weekend cos we had a constant breeze blowing - just enough to blow a piece of paper off the table, so a light breeze, but I cant stand it. Id never survive in the Cape!

Great to hear you guys are getting some rain

Its good to finally have a proper winter again.

This is what it should be like in CPT. But it makes it difficult to get out of bed in the morning.. or commute to work on a bike

If you took the bike this morning, hats off to you! I'm not a fair weather biker but this morning the wind scared me just a bit too much and I took the bakkie. That doesn't happen often.

I was going to, but got soaked cleaning out a overflowing gutter. So had to go back in, dry clothes and thought nah.. car it is
Then I hit traffic and thought.. should have taken the bike
Besides.. a 690 on a wet road is a hoot
