    Default Gried-Tied; Power during blackout

Looks like SMA has introduced a feature that allows one to draw 1500W from solar panels, to a dedicated plug, without batteries during a blackout. Very nice feature, hopefully other manufacturers will soon.

A little bit of poetic license there, but nice anyway.

While SMA's implementation might be unique, it for sure isnít the only grid tied Inverter that provides standby or backup power.

Great feature without having the battery option as on some grid-tied as Fluffy indicated. I think one can look forward to more new designs in inverters.

Which other domestic Grid-tied inverters provide this feature?

I was under the impression if there was a blackout and one does not have batteries there cannot be any power provided by the panels.

Fluffy will explain it better but I see if he refers to grid-tied that do have batteries. Also those inverters with a solar priority although with bat can provide power. This is then the 1st without batteries. I still fancy grid-tied and separate backup inverters. Some installers are also doing such combined systems.

I wonder how would one explain this type as it is said that the inverter should stop generating 220V power if the grid is off. In this case it is still generating although in a safe way.

Prob'ly only comes in yankee strength 110 volts.
This doesn't sound as if it is grid tied. It seems a stand-alone circuit feeding one dedicated plug.

There is plenty of grid-tied systems here, the okes in Durban, MagnetGroup specilise in grid tied systems, and they must have a way of preventing backfeeding.

Thank you. One wonders if the functionality is still offered today..

As for ground breaking, this forum was told that its impossible to get power from panels when grid tied and Escom is down.. Looks like it was possible in 2013 already.

Imagine 'n boer maak 'n plan" and a cord is used from the dedicated plug on the inverter with 3pin plug to any other plug to provide 220V on the whole DB and the grid-tied inverter sees a active grid again.
