    Default GV feedback

After 6990km through Namibia and Botswana, towing a Off Trax Outplay trailer, we are back home savely. Driving on some of Namibia's most horrible corrigation roads through Damaraland, Koakoland and Olifants camp in Etosia I never had a single problem with the GV. The back shocks though does feel like they need to be replace now after they took some serious hammering while towing on the corrigation roads.

Before leaving I put on 16" SX4 rims with 205/80/16 GY Wrangler A/T tyres (new ones with cevlar). The Wranglers also gave me excellent service without any flats or damage and still looks like new. I never realy towed through some thick sand but dit quite a lot of solo driving through thick 2 spoor sand roads for example the 4x4 road through the Mahango reserve in Caprivi and also between Madisa camp and White Lady lodge. Some parts I had to engage 4x4 Low lock but was mostly driving in 4x4 High lock through the sand and never got stuck, but I must admit that some parts were quite challenging. The only time I did got stuck was through some dust parts in the Khowarib river where the middlemannetjie was too high.
My overall fuel consumpion for the whole trip was 8.2km/l towing at 110km most of the time.

Looks like a fantastic trip! Erich just on the tyres - your post says 205/80 r16. Why did you decide to go narrower? How does gv brake and handle with these tyres?

It was awsome and I would do it again. I opted for the 205 purely to try and save some fuel, but it seems like the GV was 0.4 km/l heavier on fuel when towing. I also installed the snorkel so I realy don't know whether it is due to the AT tyres being heavier or the snorkel sucking air from behind or maybe a combination of the two? The vehicle does feel a bit more loose on the road sometimes but to no extend where you feel unsave. No problem with breaking noticed, I had to stop suddenly on a few occations without problems. I think when I have to change again it would be a 50/50 decition between 205 and 225 or even 215 but it will also depend on availability and price.

    thanks for feed back.

some people here can not get that kind of fuel consumption,on tar road, without trailer.

you should write some pointers for them.

Haha, you have to keep consumption in mind all the time while driving. My consumption was worked out with actual kilos and fuel used and not what the computer said. On the 4x4 trips we drove, my computer went to something like 17L/100km. I took 80L extra in jerry cans but only had to use 40L extra once. The advantage though is that I brought 80L back from Botswana @P9.55 = about R13.08/L

    Just a question.
Did you go from 18 (Summit) or 17 (Dune) wheels and why did you change to 16 inch?
Did you have to re-calibrate your on-board fuel consumption / speed calibration or did you just use manual calculations?

Hi Killarneyracer, I went from 18" as I have the Summit. Reason was to have a bigger side wall for off road travelling on A/T tyres and you get more options and better pricing. Difference is less than 0.3% in diameter. Speedo is about 4km faster than gps and my consumption was done manually. I only use the on board computer while driving to try and use the minimum fuel but without reducing speed too much.

Well, I took my vehicle to Suzuki Klerksdorp yesterday for a shock absorber test and they send me to Supaquick which has a new testing system intalled. The result was that my back left shock is below the cut off margin of 0.3 and returned to be 0.2 where the back right was 0.4 and the two in front about 0.6. System shows both back shocks must be replaced. Apparently my guarentee expired last year so no replacement wil be done under guarentee. Now to start searching for back shocks as Supaquick couldn't help me and I'm not going to buy from the dealer.

Forgot to mention that both back shocks are leaking oil as well.

    Hi
Thanks for GV feedback, here is some more
Last week, went into Richtersveld from Vioolsdrif via Eksteenfontein. Seedlingsdrif, Richtersveld, Tatasberg, then out over Helsberg.
Luiperdskloof cottage in Namaqua Park and down to Boulders campsite via Spoegrivier caves. Next day out to Ronderberg campsite,Bulshoek Dam (very nice stop over) via Groenrivier. We were warned not to go coastal to Lutzville as the road had washed away.
The GV Summit AT with 40mm lift handled everything, no problem. Only used low range twice. The group I was with were also very impressed with it.
Did about 2400km, Averaged about 12.5km/l. Fully loaded, no trailer.
Now to plan the next trip
