    Default Tennis pay...all things equal?

The past week-end we have seen a fantastic final between Federer and Djokovic of 5 sets and about 5 hours of action. The day before was the women's final and it took less than an hour for Halep to humiliate a fat and unfit opponent...but they all get the same pay. How is that possible? The men earn about $12 000 per hour and the women about $58 000 per hour. How is that all things being equal......or does it work only towards the one side?

They are not paid per hour, they are paid per match.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.

That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Prize money is not calculated per hour. Simply equal prize money for same title (women and mens champion)

Yes, let's call the second most successful women's tennis player of all time "fat and unfit".

You ask a pertinent question. Your credibility to ask it got lost when you started insulting the women. (This coming from someone who has no time for Serena)

Edit: Having said that, tennis seems to be unique in this phenomenon of same prize money. It's not like that in golf, cricket, rugby or soccer.

I don't know about athletics or swimming.

In tennis, it's not "fair". To my mind, sport remuneration is tied into sponsorships, tv rights etc. Without knowing the figures, I can't imagine that Saturdays final pulled the same amount of viewers or sponsorship money as Sunday's.

    Do I care? No.

Are you complaining because women are being compensated the same as men because the match times differed? If so you are part of the reason these atrocities exist in the first place!

The world is having to adjust allot due to past inequalities

At least they aren't doing it by cutting the amount the men would win they are just equalizing the amounts

But let me put it this way how much of the money they paid them was your money that you have to give up?

Since I am quite sure your answer is none then I just want to ask why are you complaining?

And you are bitching about Serena being fat
She would probably still beat you 100 times over playing tennis and probably most other fitness routines

If payment is the same-surely the amount of allowable sets should be the same-Woman play only a maximum of three where men play 5-so in my mind if you want everything to be equal-the so be it, EVERYTHING must be equal from the tournaments side.

If your opponent does not show up for the match-well lucky you-if he/she does-well that's when history is made!

Payment is not for the work done
It is for winning in your category

The men's match could have been finished allot earlier if one of them played badly

Should they then have gotten less?

Geez, burn the guy at the stake why dont you?

In sport, and we know there is a difference between viewership of mens and womens events and I believe a lot more women will watch mens sporting matches compared to men watching womens, the sponsorship values are higher and mens sporting matches will bring in more revenues due to the higher number of viewers. This has been cited as the reason for the disparity in womens and mens earnings in these matches.

To get real parity, they should do away with womens and mens sports and just have a sport. Let them compete against each other. Having separate events is just pure sexist

never mind tennis what about modeling ... all things being equal.

pay gap also extends to the modeling rank-and-file. Female models make an average of $41,300 annually, which is 148% more than the men, who earn an average of about $28,000, according to data from Payscale.

I think its more a matter of the sets needed to be played than hours. Women should also play 5 sets instead of just 3.... (Best of 5 instead of best of 3)

Well what would you say is fair
In normal movie industry men generally earn allot more than women

The only side where women earn more than men is in the adult industry
But now the question is do you really think those women are better off because they can earn more there?
Maybe worth watching the movie "After pron ends" it shows some of the life they live after a life of doing that
