Not surprising. Few friends bought only because of the huge discounts they got from MB dealers.

I regard the number of vehicle derivatives currently on offer by all manufacturers to be a lot too many. There must surely be close to 700 model derivatives in the S.A. automobile basket.

Audi: A1 to A8; Q1 to Q8 then the RS models,
    KIA; Picanto, Kona, Greta.......
    Hyundai: i10, i20, I30.....
And the list goes on and on
    Renault: Kwid, Clio, Sandero....

The manufacturers have in their own mix models that compete with each other.

Wonder why after such a short run, how was it priced relative to the traditional pick-up brands in Europe/US?

    Im not surprised at all.

At the end of the day MB tried to package and sell a proverbial toasted sandwich as a Dagwood at the price of a Dagwood with chips and a coke. Consumers are smarter than they expected.

Maybe they would have had more success if they had designed a pickup or bakkie from the ground up.

Good Riddance! Hope they’ve learned their lesson!

Trying to paw off a Nissan/Renault as a Mercedes for a very hefty price premium is just idiotic.

Thats what happens when you think your consumers are a bunch of total idiots that are willing to pay anything just because you stick a premium label on a product. There is nothing wrong with the product by the way, I drive a d23 Navara and its fantastic, just not so much at the crazy price that Mercedes Benz sell them at.
The greed might have paid off in the years before internet and social media, but it aint the 1900s anymore! People are just too well informed these days about the products they spend their coins on.

With Toyota tying up the market, Ford in line, Isuzu the contender, Amarok the best European bakkie and Mitsubishi the dark horse, was there any place for another bakkie? Not to mention the other brands available.

A Gwagon bakkie? There is already a Jeep and Land Cruiser for that, proper 4x4's, so Merc would have been trailing two icons again. The Merc bakkie pushing R1bar, what would a Gwagon bakkie have set you back?

So the Frankenmerc, slapped together from different parts, was launched into a bakkie pit that was already saturated with capable, luxury, comfortable, rugged machines. Pushing a Merc dash into a Navara and tinkering with a suspension seems not to have been the answer. Just an ill-conceived concept rushed to a market that already has everything to offer.

I feel for the owners that are now probably married to their Nissedes Benz's. Maybe they become collectors items, who knows....

Now hopefully Mercedes will take the G-wagon, and add a load bed, take out some of the nice to have luxuries, and sell it under R900k. Now there is a winner!
