Velocity Raptors from TWT.
Half the price, and I see a couple of guys running them on their Fortuners at my company.

Hi All
I will need to replace the Bridgestoneson my Fortuner in the coming months. I’m stuck with a few choices. I usually try out a new tyre on the work hilux before I decide to put it on my pvt vehicle. I’ve been running the at3 general grabber and have lost 2 tyres on district roads to sharp stones penetrating through the tread on the tyre. This has put doubt in my mind even though the previous model at grabbers never failed me. We do a lot of gravel roads here at home. My wife’s school is on a dirt road so she is on it every day. We do trips through Lesotho relatively often. We also tour all our neighboring countries through the year. Now BFG and Coopers are just too expensive. My thoughts are Dunlop AT3G or good year wrangler duratrac. Who has experience with these. Or do I just stick with one of the bankers in general grabber or good year adventures. All these can be sourced from our small town.
Any comments appreciated as well as personal experience.

I ran wranglers on 2 of my vehicles. Good tyre, good handling and breaking, but also lost a couple the same way. The Dunlop AT3G is a 3 ply sidewall. I have fitted Dunlops on my Ranger. They are not a quiet as the wranglers but I've not had any punctures and there handling is as good as the wranglers

I had Dunlop AT3's (not the AT3G's) and recently put on a set of the Wranger Duratracs.
I've very happy with the Duratracs and will put them on again. Grip is good, they're not noisy and by looking at the construction they should offer more puncture resistance. Where have your previous punctures been? Sidewall or in the tread?

Previous punctures on the grabbers was through the thread. The Duratracs do excite me.

Some AT tyres have a more aggressive tread pattern than others. Search Google (under images) and visit tyre sites that show pictures to get an idea of whats available.
Other wise get a MT tyre.

Consider Khumo MT. They are directional and consist of a soft rubber compound.
You get the benefits of MT - less likely to get punctures and obviously better offroad capabilities - while performing close to AT's on tar.

Just remember, traditionally MT's give less mileage than AT's

Thanks all. A mate is going to put the at3g on his hilux. And another will put the duratracs on next week. Will see how each go.

After offroading with the duratracs yesterday I was impressed. Took we way further than the previous AT3's. They're a good tyre and are good in the mud. Quiet on the tar. Very happy

Looks awesome. So you say they performed very well. Was this on sand and mud. How are they like on district roads.
