Default Owner of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for 17 years

Hello, I've owned my 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado since it was imported into the UK and touch wood I've never had to do anything to it other than services, belt changes, brakes and tyres. It's the best car I've ever owned. It's pulled 3 caravans too. It's part of the Family and I've had many other cars come and go while still keeping my pride and joy. More recently I've bought a SURF and have slowly been restoring it.

Today while driving my pride and joy Green Beasty, the Prado seems to be making a strange noise like a kettle boiling while giving the car some Gas !
I do hope it's not the Turbo. It has needed the Air Con Re-gas doing but not really having much of a summer here in the UK it usually gets ignored. I don't use the Air Con anymore either.

Does anyone have any idea what this noise is please ?

    Thanks, Nick

If its the KZTE diesel, it might be bad news!

I would take it to one to have a look at, rather than asking the thousands of qualified keyboard mechanics on the forum..

Oh, I don't know about that. I've had mechanics stuff up multiple jobs and I have asked for help on the forum and successfully repaired multiple problems myself.

If under load it could just be a hole in a turbo pipe that is blowing. Put it in neutral open the bonnet and have someone rev the engine while checking around the hoses for an air leak. It could be blowing or sucking which is making the noise.

Is it using water or oil before we jump to conclusions

I agree 100%, especially if the mechanics like myself, had completed their trade tests, which, in SA, is not necessarily the case these days. In 1994 there were @ 35 000 registered apprentices, across all trades. In 2014, that had dropped to @ 5 000.

Personally, I have more respect for the knowledge and opinion of the guys who own and drive the vehicles than some person who cant afford to own or drive the vehicle. So good luck with finding a ''qualified'' macky in SA these days.

But in the UK, that should be easier.

Sorry for not tuning in earlier ! Been away on family holiday. I will ask my mechanic to check for an air leak and I will check Oil and Water levels. Yes I believe its the KZTE diesel engine. Thanks
