    Default Will the VG30DETT fit?

    Hi All,

I have been toying with changing my 98 Sani's motor from the standard VG30 to a VG30DETT.

    My questions are
    a) Will it drop straight in
    b) If not what changes will have to be made
    c) Is it worth doing

If it will work then I think the power and torque increase will be awesome.
Just a bit worried about the transfer of it through the drive train.

    Your input will be appreciated.

George I think we discussed this 10 years ago on the old Nissan 4x4 forum:

(this is as far as I recall) but if I remember correctly, there was an issue with the width of the engine with the DOHC and twin turbos

    https://forums.nicoclub.com/vg30dett...1-t464624.html

two guys that might be able to clarify:

    Nizmozilla
    Reenen

and if his memory is better than mine

    Bfreesani

Lastly, Reenen might have a contact for a VK45 or something that might be a better option.........

The same contact that we use for the vk45 also sells the vq35. I think the price is around 15k ,but the nice thing is that it comes with a clutch kit. The motors are brand spanking new and run 200kw . They are nice and compact and come with everything apart from an a/c pump.
The 350z motor will outlast your Sani.

any motor can be MADE to fit if you willing to put in the time and money lots of money. but rather drop in a 350Z NA motor .the guy above had about 14 350Z motors and the vk45 v8 motors. you will have to have an adaptor plate made for both these boxes , non of the bakkie boxes are a straight bolt up. if you can find a 350z boz or a v6 navara box then you ok they bolt on the the 350z/vq35 motors. not so sure what will work on the VK45. boxes are about as expensive as the motrs lol.
the vg30dett is an old motor that probably needs some work save your self the nightmare and go the 350 or vq route they are brand new.

For that amount of effort, just drop in a Lexus V8 and smile.

I still say, the cheapest engine to put in is a VG30ET motor, it's the only motor that will fit directly on the GB, that saves money.

Unfortunately, there will always be some modification needed like ECU/management, exhaust, maybe engine mounts, boost pipes, maybe water pipes. The VG30ET is a direct VG30 motor, only with lower compression and turbo manifold etc on.

If I one day have to and have the cash, thats what I will do.

You could contact Nissan Spares in Brackenfell. Was there earlier in the year and saw him building one of those into a Patrol-IIRC.

Way cheaper than repairing old motor. Then again he has most if not all the parts at hand.

Are there any diesel engines available in this price range?

Yes, but they probably won't fit the bellhousing.

Was looking for alternative options to fit into an older Safari (l28 )... petrol is too expensive (when you look at 4-5km/l).. maybe some of these newer technology petrol engines are more economical to run?

RD28 6 cylinder diesel is the best option.

See that bellhousing thread, Reenen has successfully grafted an RD28 onto the L28 gearbox.

And there are turbo kits for the RD28 if you shop around.
