    Default CKGR on the way

Evening all. Finally we are on our way to CKGR after having to cancel a previously booked trip in 2016 due to car trouble. We are booked 3 nights in Leopard pan and 3 nights in Kori4 starting August 6. Just need a little help as regards places to stay the way.

We we will leave Johannesburg early on Saturday 5 August and we will need to stop over and probably do some shopping either on that Saturday or early Sunday morning.

Will the shops be open on Sunday?
where is the best place to shop Letlakhane or Orapa.

should we overnight at Tuuthebe or Makumutu?

How long will will it take to get to Leopard pan from either of these places.

thank you kindly for any assistance with my queries.

Best shopping will definitely be at Lethlakane. Ample shopping opportunities, fuel etc. But I don't know if you will make it in time as most shops close early on a Saturday. With border crossing included it took us just on 12 hours, and we did not diddle-daddle.

Camping at Tuuthebe is OK for a stop-over. remember that you will need an early start from Jo'burg

Enjoy your stay at CKGR. Letlhakane has all the goodies goodies you need, even ATMs.

Serowe has a very nice shopping center as well, right on the corner of the right turn towards Lethlakane.

Tuuthebe to Leopard pan, should not be more than 7 hours.

I would recommend Serowe Spar, close to Engen Filling Stn.
So you are earlier for shopping and can still proceed to Letlhakane afterwards.

Mind the Bottle stores are not open on Sundays, so buy your booze before 4PM on Saturday.

Thanks for the suggestions. A good idea to complete all the shopping in Serowe then we can relax and enjoy the trip.

must say I can't wait. First trip to CKGR and very excited. Also first trip in the new/ second hand landrover. Hope all goes well.

Enjoy, I have to wait for next year before I get there, trip report please. If you can't think of what to say, send me the pics and I will make stuff up and we can put it under the fiction section.

Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Ha,ha my better half is sooo scared of lions that he has converted the landrover so that we both sleep in it. This will be a trial run but after us both sleeping above the cab in a camper van in Etosha last month I think that the Landry is going to be pretty comfortable. Really hoping, so as we are beginning to plan our trip up through Africa in the not too distant future.

watch this space for a very interesting trip report. If the Landy is not comfortable one or other of us might just become lion food.( I better learn to drive the darn thing or I might just be stuck!)

Tuuthebe great place. have overnighted there on way to CKGR; very nice self catering chalets; great to not have to put up tent for 1 night.

I would advise on Tuuthebe, over Makhumutu, however all lodges are perfect but Tuuthebe is a bit quiet as comapred to Makhumutu which normally recives a lot of locals.

    Thanks

Just remember alcohol in Bots is much more expensive than in SA - also you're supposedly only allowed to bring a six pack per person through, not sure about harder stuff.

Great thanks. One week to go now. Lots to do and lots to pack. I am determined not to pack the kitchen sink this time!

Old thread, latest on Tuutube? Still a good stop over non-camping? It seems they offer only self catering? Will be on our way back and would just like to relax on our way back. Other suggestions in the vicinity?

Great journeys are memorable not so much for what you saw, but for where you camped.

I was there a few weeks back and was most comfortable. Always stop here on way to CKGR from Johannesburg as next day not long till in the park. The only other option is Khama Rhino Sanctuary, but that adds another 180km or so the next day.

    Hi Luka,
Tuuthebe's proximity to the A14 caters for extremely loud heavy traffic all night long, would not want to camp there right next to the road. Rather take a self catering chalet.
