Default One for the battery gurus. Lead Crystal/ AGM

Word on the street is that Lead Crystal / AGM batteries can be mounted in any orientation. Can anyone confirm that a Lead Crystal battery can be installed and used on its side? Im asking those who have done this and have experience with it.

I am in process of refurbishing an Echo 3 trailer and the battery box was stupidly designed with a depth of 200mm so my option is to either find a strange sized battery or install a normal sized battery on its side.

I made 2 stainless steel trays

Cut rectangular holes in bottom of battery bin and dropped in the trays

All tightly bolted down and sealed, painted etc

Dropped in a Dixon DC105DT in each tray

What does "almost" any position mean?

I have three of them, between 2 and 5 years old, no problems.

I believe its quite a robust battery.

    Good question

I suppose the poles must not be at the bottom?

That's the thing, the specs say in almost any position so I am curious who has actually used the batteries on their side?

Its like buying a watch that is rated to 5ATM (as a diver that means 40m under water) but in watch maker terms that means shower proof...

what would a cost implication be between Dixon and optima. vs doing the mod to the floor of battery box.

    Ok lets try answer

    2 x 105Ah Dixons = R5000
    Mofdifications = max R600
    Roud up to R6000
    That results in 6000/200 = R30/Ah

    2 x Optima 75Ah = R14000 !!!
    That results in R93/Ah

No comparison - do the mod...
