Default Isuzu 300 4x4 Auto (Advice needed)

Hi Guys, Need some advice please. Looking at buying an Isuzu, is there any problems with the auto boxes that I need to look out for and what would the fuel consumption be on these with the auto boxes. Thanks Eugene EDIT: 2009 model

Had both the manual and the auto double cab 4x4.

    Auto is a 4 speed.
I got 9.5km/l combined (I dont drive like hooligan and stick to the speed limit.)
At 140km/h expect it to drop to about 8.5.

The manual gives more than 10 easily. Even up to 12km/l if you go easy.

Another thing that irritated me was the high revving on pull away in the mornings when itís cold. That being said My driveway is very steep and thus the gearbox needs considerable torque to get moving. This was just an irritation as I hate revving a diesel when cold.

The auto is awesome in sand. Always have power on the wheels. And generally leas hassle to drive obviously requiring less user input.

If I buy one again, Iíll go for the manual as the advantages.

    My 2c.

Tom13 I don't think it is the same engine, your thread is the Dmax engine. AFAIK the OP is inquiring about the Dteq engine. I assume both are diesels.

Yes. 2008 onwards will be the Dteq engine. And the auto gearbox in the dteq also differs from the old dmax.
The dmax auto gearbox is known to overheat.. anyway not applicable to this thread.

Interesting to know about the "older" shape auto boxes. Thanks Guys
I have managed to speak to the previous owner of the vehicle and he assured me that everything is in order with his vehicle. So hopefully all is good to go and no serious surprises to come.
Now just the wait to get the vehicle, hopefully later this week.

Got used to the auto in the Subaru (I know you can't compare the 2 at all, the Scooby CVT is brilliant). Most of our holidays will be Kruger park or Kgalagadi and the cruising along in auto makes is more relaxing and easy. So mostly a personal choice, and no more serious trails for us.

Oh OK. I don't like autos on turbo diesels. But each to their own.

I'm thinking soon (well, 20 years or so) you are going to struggle to get a manual vehicle (which I also prefer)

Cannot speak to newer Isuzu's, but we have a 2002 model 300Tdi LX. The overdrive started whining on 394k km. So if that is anywhere as good...

    Just service regularly...
