It depends on the time of the year.which month ? You can use Khwai /Maun road outside the the park.

Any idea on the travelling time from 3rd Bridge to Magotho campsite? Thinking of spending 2-3 nights at 3rd Bridge before a couple nights at Magotho and then onto Savuti.

    HiTravis

Next from May to Aug can do. But even this year anytime is fine. Bots is very dry and game view is good because animals spend time on water pools.

Hi do you know where the Jamaica camp site is? I booked with Bob for what I thought was Makgotho but he came back with that.

It might be just the name of the individual stand at Magotho. Check at reception if you don't see it whilst driving in.

    Mine is "Slope"

I think they move away from numbers as it confuses with new and old numbering. The old ones were easy 1 - 8, that's it but meanwhile there must be about 25 stands.

I hope it is not on the same dates

It is along the river first site when incoming from Khwai side along the river route. I've seen people camping there but for me it is a first.
Seems a fair bit away from ablution, but so be it.
If we do game drive anyway, we can stop at ablution on return, then we are done (walking in the dark )

Slope because it is on quite a steep slope. Nowhere is flat on the site. Close to the track, but people have to go slow on it.
I had it for 3 nights last month, went and took one of the flat ones out back instead.

BUT you do get some interesting animals along there, I later camped at the site next door and we had a Lion (3pm) Cheetah (5pm) on the other side of the river and a Leopard past the slope site at 8pm. Some view from the slope site, but not great.

If you want to sit most of the day and watch things happen, its good.
If you want to cruise in at dark just to camp I prefer a flat site (where I had a Hyena fight at 3am one night around the Landy)

No chance of walking to the ablutions, they are about 1km away. New (same style) ablutions blocks have been built this month, not an upgrade, more a replacement of the same thing. Shower at lunchtime to get hot water, don't go at the end of the day and expect hot water, solar powered.

You'll need all of your own water too.

    Have fun!

Thanks for the details, does sound a bit of a challenge, but we are experienced bush travellers so to make a plan.

As for the RTT on flat ground, I usually dig in the wheels on the high side to level the car and the trailer (kitchen) so no problems.
Bush shower on site is an option wo avoid long walks, whereas 1 km is about what you have in Xakanaxa from camp #10 to ablution, so done many times before.

I am sure we will enjoy - thanks.

The slope is a bit too strong to ever get level - think of about 25-35cm difference between front and back of the a landy facing downhill. But I used my waffles boards etc to remove some of it. It's ok.
You can jam yourself up into the bushes at the top a bit where it levels off more.

Definitely cannot walk safely to the ablutions imho.
Too far, a lot of narrow track with thick bush, and a lot of animals of all kinds day and night. It's definitely leopard central on that stretch, seen them many times, day and night.
Never seen anybody walking along there. But if you do please carry a GoPro and let me use the footage if your attacked!!

Well that clears it up then.

BUT- 2 min DRIVE - hey, I don't intend to drive there as once the camp is set and RTT up we relax.

Let's just estimate 2 min @ 20 kph gives about 650 m or 6 min of walk one way that is.

It may just end up being a 1 way trip as well depending how bushy it is.
If anyone has recent pics now in June or July I hope they post them.

My wife reminded me about when we were in the Chobe in 2016, a distance from the toilet (fine during the day not so much at night) and we both needed to go after sunset and the lions were close by (like feel the roar in your bones close) - we drove the vehicle up to the toilet (tent open and all, me holding onto the ladder lol).
