Not really. I would assume its cos us RSA citizens dont have hundreds of thousands of US Dollars to spend on a hunt.

And actually, if there are RSA citizens with that kind of money, and the real need to hunt in that reserve, I bet they dont use google to findout if they can go hunt there. They'll know someone who knows someone.

Ok here's the principle - National/Provincial Parks are national assets that belong to the people of the country. They are there first and foremost to protect fauna and flora and within this context for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the people of the country. As a consequence they represent a legitimate investment employing tax payers money to cover costs. The objective is not business and profit. Any money earned via providing facilities and infrastructure etc in the park in order for the public to enjoy the park and charging fees is legitimate and a legitimate means of contributing towards the overall costs of the park. However, the objective is to strive to provide the amenities and infrastructure
at as reasonable a price to the public as possible. The objective may never be allowed to degenerate into a profiteering exercise per se and to the extent of effectively excluding members of the public or denying them access and enjoyment of what is their park. Such would simply be obscene, unprincipled, corrupt, prone to arbitrary decision making and the exercise of power and ultimately unsustainable. These principles form part of the greater social contract between members of a population functioning in terms of a State and between such members and those mandated to run the State as financed by the population.

Milennials and generation Xs may now say "huh?" and baby boomers may now think back with nostalgia.

Has anyone been to Manyane after the recent incident, or has anyone heard if the situation has improved..... I spoke to someone yesterday that was first on the scene after the shooting and who went to Pillanesburg regularly ....he explained how bad the circumstances were prior to the incident ....I'm there in a few weeks time but will definitely cancell if I can't find out.

This is one of my favorite campsites...by boycotting the place we are letting the buggers win. We should still go to these campsites and make the management aware of our concerns on arrival....pilanesberg is a gem...

Finn, to a point I agree with you and under normal circumstances the response you prescribe would be correct, however at what expense ..... Sure most of my belongings are insured but the time the hassle the drama and trauma of it all just puts things into the NOT WORTH IT category. Now all you need is to defend your self in such a situation and win, that changes it to an even more dramatic experience ....
Pillanesburg is a fantastic place, and I will continue to visit there , however and fortunately golden leopard resorts is not the only place to stay ..... They do not deserve the patronage of the general public .....not only due to there hiding the true facts but also because of the state they have allowed the facilities to deteriat to at both Bagatla and Manyane.

strange this hasn’t had any traction on social media.
this is a pretty big blow I think. Or are we just accepting that you’ll probably get robbed these days, so not really news

I understand that both Manyane and Bakgatla is closed for business.

The North West Tourism Board (NWTB) has also been experiencing financial losses. Golden Leopard Resorts (a subsidiary of NWTB) is responsible for the decay at the Manyane and Bakgatla Resorts, both of which are now closed. NWTB suffered R22,5 million in financial losses over the last three financial years. The Board has been unable to pay staff salaries.

    AGAIN??
We stayed at Bakgatla just two weeks ago. All seemed perfectly fine then. Although extremely quiet.

I tried booking at Manyane for camping a few times. Everytime being told they are not open for bookings at this stage.
    I've given up.

Sjo, we were there last weekend when a fire destroyed the gate and a few chalets.

People were panicking and driving around like idiots while other packed up. One guy destroyed his caravan on the way out.

It was a scary situation, but the panic was not warranted.

Maybe this is a chance for Manyane to get a new shiny coat? Who knows.Attachment 700117Click image for larger version.

Glad nobody was hurt. We were in the park a few years ago the day the blind on the main dam burned - surreal experience…

    Good day

What is the latest regarding these camps? Are they open for business? Is it worth going? If so, which camp site?

    Thanks in advance

we were at bakgatla two weeks ago, but stayed in the chalets (which are really really starting to show their age and lack of maintenance, but anyway), I walked through the campsite, there were two campers in the entire place, so I guess a plus would be that it’s peaceful.
don’t know about manyane status since the fire, but wasn’t there issues with music from the township there anyway?

Any other options for camping in the area?

    It would seem that wherever
    Golden Leopard Resorts were/are involved
there has been degeneration and decay
    of past-proven and potentially great
    wild entrusted areas.
    The very negative Tripadvisors reviews,
by naive and unknowing visitors (?) ,
reflect the sad & desparate situation…
Case in point was/is Borokalalo which
seems to have ‘fallen off the map’.
