Default Jeep Centurion dealership closed as from 1 July

The Jeep/Fiat/Alfa dealership on the corner of Old Jhb Road and Lenchen South is closed.

From 1 July it will be a Mercedes franchise only.

Jeep services can be done, but that also falls away at the end of the year, and as far as I know, the current workshop manager and most of the senior workshop mechanics have already left.

We are now looking for workshop alternatives, but based on the scarcity of decent independent Jeep workshops, we're still considering franchised workshops only.

Most independents don't follow the strict workshop checklist, and that's why they are cheaper, half the stuff never gets done properly.

Probably not close enough to you, but you should give Zone Offroad a try, they don't only build monster Jeeps but handle the usual servicing too if I remember right.

Thank goodness nothing much on my Wrangler that I can’t fix myself. Never used dealers for services once out of warranty..... found that most dealer mechanics are just “replacement specialist” ( said most, not all )

Good mechanics are now running their own “independent” shops imo.

    Have a great day.

Indeed. We're trying to find out if any of the Centurion staff went to one of those. We heard the workshop manager might have started an indie somewhere in Pretoria/Centurion, but no further concrete info. He is ex-Wonderboom, and he is on the ball.

Well we drive 65kms to Centurion Jeep, another 5 or 10 isn't an issue. I'll keep them in mind.

SWAMBO won't let me touch her Jeep with a spanner (maybe with due reason, I'm a bloudraad and cable tie type guy), and she's pretty nervous of independent "specialists" after the WJ fiasco.
And her opinion is also that a one man band doesn't have the financial backing to rectify anything they screw up, most of the time an independent will leave you in the lurch if your engine drops all its coolant because of a human error, simply because most of them don't have the cash flow to fix a screw-up like that. Also, most independents (and home mechanics) do NOT check everything in the service schedule, and that invariably bites you in the butt immediately afterwards. So she wants accountability and proper due process. If we can find an indie that offers those CONSISTENTLY, then we will reconsider.

I know they are not the most popular on the forum but American SUV have always done right by me. Not the cheapest but I'm an ex CJD P&A exec, so I can confidently say that they've never ripped me off, even when the bill has been eye - watering.

Bulli comes highly recommended but the (small) indie caveats may apply. I've never used him, so no personal experience.

I could fill several pages with a comprehensive answer but it boils down to sales volumes. The CJD and Fiat/FC/AR franchises simply do not have the new car sales volumes to sustain a (relatively comprehensive) dealer network.

Indeed. And I can't see them keeping any dedicated Jeep workshops open, you'll have to settle for a multi-franchise.

No thanks. Haven't had a good history with them. And If I see where and how they park customers vehicles, I'd be even more worried.

There current premises is just way too small.

I also use Zone. I'll be taking my Rubicon for its 108 000 km service tomorrow. This will cost R3400 approx for a normal oil and filter service (for those that always wonder what Jeep services costs) - not bad at all. And they do know Jeeps...

All of those were done with the previous service, i.e. at 96 000 km.
Where did you get this schedule? Jeep Midrand has sent me a quote for the EXACT same items as per Zone's quote. So either your schedule is incorrect (no offense here) or Jeep Midrand is also not following the correct schedule.

Interesting reading. My original decision to leave Land Rover and switch to Toyota was because of dealerships closing. After my closest dealership closed, I entered into a lengthy argument with LR Head office, eventually ending with me and three farmers in my immediate vicinity switching to Toyota. For even with much higher sales than Jeep, there are actually not that many LR dealerships around either, but I think quite a bit more Indies.

I think LR owners would be in pretty similar situation if not for the Indies.
