    How did that happen?

2hnd import motors for the Rav4 must be a dime a dozen, drop in and go why make your life difficult?

Yes, it's a 2.5 petrol with an 8 speed automatic gearbox.
I believe it's an old engine Toyota tweaked in an attempt to make more efficient.
At the moment I'm getting between 9 and 9.5l/100km which I think is bad because I travel around 100km a day on the freeway and these days I'm a relatively conservative driver.
I presume the consumption will improve as the engine loosens up.
It has only been 1000km so far...

That is rather high for a current gen engine doing lots of highway driving, have you checked on Fuelly what other people are getting with that model?

    Haven't checked.
    Toyota's website claims 7.3l/100km.
I usually add 1 litre to the manufacturers claim to get a realistic figure. Will give it a few thousand kilometres more and see.
Anyway, I find naturally aspirated Toyotas are more reliable than frugal...

Think it was just that time

Why go standard if a camry v6 fits perfectly only small changes needed

Nothing ever fits perfectly, nevermind the electronics and other bits n pieces. But please start a build thread if you do it!

In some countries the 3rd generation RAV4 was available standard with the V6 - 2GR-FE.

His is a 1st gen though, would a 3rd gen engine be a straight drop in?

    That is the question.

The 2nd gen onward with the 1AZ-FE (2.0L) should not be a problem. Camry also came with 1AZ-FE.

1st gen RAV4 was 3S-FE. There were also older model Camrys with the same engine.

The guy that did that conversion was also a professional with lots and lots of Toyota V6 conversion experience, probably also has lots of spares and scrap to test and troubleshoot with.

Then again if you have lots of time and money on your hands why not.
