    Default Turbo whistle??

Ok, I promise this is the last time I will ever ask a Turbo Whistle related question...

    Background info:
I've got a 2012 3.2 PS auto with about 90000km on the clock, bought in Feb 2019 with 84000km...
I blanked the EGR off, but didn't do any other changes (like de CAT etc..)

I've notice some Turbo whistle type noise from the beginning...
Noise only there when PS is warmed up, not when still cold...
Only really hear it when driving slowly / no hard acceleration , from RPM +-1700 - 2200....
If the PS is stationary and in N or P, and you rev it, I don't here any whistle...

I don't have the time & money to take it to 'Arnold' or any other Specialist, especially NOT Mitshi .....

Some people saying it MIGHT not be the turbo, but 'leaking' stuff / pipes??
My question, if not the turbo which places / pipes must I check??

I've checked the Turbo on the inlet side, there was very little play on the shaft, and on the outlet part.. no signs on and oil....

We are doing a trip down to KZN in June, and want to be comfortable that there is nothing wrong with it...

Forgive me 'inglish'.... I'm a 'boertjie'...

    Txs

That is a variable vane turbo as far as I know.

There could be various levels of whistle depending on throttle position, revs, etc.

There is a difference between a whistle and a leak.

Een is 'n fluit, die ander een blaas, verstaans djy?

I wouldn't worry about it at this stage. If the impeller or compressor blades are worn, it won't do much except manifest as a small drop in performance.

I'm not a boffin with turbos but here is my 2c worth of experience. When "Arnold" blanked my Paj's EGR I was told that it will whistle for a while which it did. It was irritating in the beginning but eventually it stopped. I have no idea after how many Km did it stop.

With the last service I was told that the inter-cooler is blowing and will need to be repaired during the next service (blowing and whistling was explained)

I had a bit more of a high whine sound that disappeared when I removed the cat.

Ok, went to Eddie at Africa Turbo. He checked my PJS turbo whistle out, and told me that it is a balance problem on the turbo. Quick to fix, BUT I need to bring the turbo in. Meaning I need to take it of myself etc....

According to him, the whistle is more an irritation than a problem....
