Question Mapungubwe - distance between Tented camp and Mazhou

Good evening. Planning on going camping at Mazhou. My grandparents wants to come along but are not keen on camping. How far is the Limpopo Forest Tented Camp from the Mazhou campsite as it might be an option for them to stay there? I can't find the location of Mazhou on any map on the internet.

    Mazhou coordinates S22 11.234 E29 12.084

There is a tented camp a couple of 100 metres away from Mazhou, but not sure whether it is the Limpopo Forest tented camp. Looking at the Sanparks website it may well be as they state that both Mazhou and Limpopo are about 40km from the main gate. We camped at Mazhou end of April, will go back anytime

The Limpopo Forest Tented Camp is indicated on the map on the SANPARKS website in the Western section of the park. Mazhou is about 1km from there.

    Definitely an option for them.

Can confirm, they are quite close to one another and definitely an option.

    Beautiful Park. Enjoy.

    Thank you all.

What section of the park is the better portion to stay in? The western or eastern section?

Also considering staying in Leokwe after camping.

    Hi Ungie
My last trip there was about 3 years ago - stayed in Leokwe and the tented camp. I thought the eastern side (Leokwe side) has more dramatic nature scenery - more mountains/ rocks / river frontage, whereas the Western side (camping) is more savanna - some pretty drives. My preference was staying on the Eastern side. I do recall it being a bit of a drive to move between the two sides, not sure if it has changed.

The sides are different. I would say that the East is the main side. The river drive from the treetop walk all the way east is spectacular and even to a non-birder, the birding is spectacular.

Have a look at the Vhembe Camp in the East. Nice and secluded with only 4 tents:

One thing about Vhembe is you have to park about 100m from your tent and then carry everything up a path. But worth it.

My suggestion: 2 nights Western section and 2 nights East (Vhembe). 4 nights are enough imo. (Although staying longer won't be a punishment).

Unfortunately Vhembe is booked for the dates that we have available.
