Yep, the Frontrunner tank I got is 3 liters more than the OEM (85 vs 82) and apparently you get a 100 liter Frontrunner tank now, too.
Concept is the same, gravity feed into the main tank. Maybe, but only maybe, Toyota has got a fuel level sensor in the OEM aux tank. Best is to confirm that with someone who owns one.

I am seriously considering the FJ Cruiser but my budget only enables me to look at 2011 to 2012 models with lower kms. Newer models, with the factory fitter OEM long range tanks, usually have mileage approaching about 140 000 km to 150 000 km in my price range.

    1. Will this mileage be considered acceptable? I do about 15 000 km a year and want to use the vehicle for a long time.
    2. What issues are there approaching 200 000 km and past that? I know of the water pump that needs to be replaced before 180 000 km. Anything else?
    3. Costs of services at the agents?
    4. Preventative maintenance items?

The Toyota sub-forum has been most helpful thus far!

    Best Regards
I've just bought a 2011 FJ. 123,000km on the clock. Traded in my 3.6 Rubicon on it. Couldn't be happier and I really loved the Jeep.

My FJ has an aftermarket Exel aux tank and it works like the other posts have said, gravity feed.

Consumption is 12.7 litres per 100 open road, and 16 litres per 100km with a Offroad trailer on the open road. Tows very very well, and really comfortable. Build quality is very good even after 8 yrs there are no rattles

Service history shows no issues ever and it just feel solid. Paid R289k.

There is a nice 2014 FJ Cruiser available at East Toyota in Eshowe. Any forumites that are in the area and willing to go and have a look?

    It an awesome car.

I am undecided, but considering selling my 2014, 80000KM, FSH, One Owner, Crawl Control, Factory Fitted LR tank. I barely use the vehicle, but I am emotionally attached I need a few more sleeps before I can decide.

Good price! Why did you trade your Rubicon in for the FJ if I may ask?

I had done all the mods and the JKU looked stunning, must've spent R130k extra on it over the 5yrs I had it, but then I decided a better tow vehicle would be nice, and comfort is way more important, and besides, SWAMBO complained it was difficult to get in the Jeep with her short legs. So it was either the jeep or the wife - I've had her for 38yrs, hasn't given any problems - so I kept her (my wife). Lol

The FJ is just a stunning car, old and ugly like me.

They had it for R350 k and when I spoke to the salesman this morning he stated R350 k. He was supposed to get back to me with photos. I supposed that is why I haven't received any yet.

Cool Re: FJ Cruiser Buying Advise - what is considered high mileage?

So I got my new (used) FJ Cruiser today! 2013 model (with crawl control and OEM long range tank), upgraded LAS Profender suspension and Hella spots. 134k km. Also fitted a Frontrunner Roofrack before delivery. Desert Brown. Taking the beast to Mapungubwe tomorrow for a trip. Must say I am impressed by the built quality. Runs like clockwork.

Thanks guys. I am impressed with the ride. Engine barely seems to tick over at normal cruising speeds and I sometimes found myself at 150 km/h effortlessly when overtaking. Fuel consumption for trip about 7.5 km/l fully loaded with roof rack with bulky items on driving at about 120 km/h (gps speed). Not bad for a V6 I think.
