    Default Land Cruiser 76 1HZ 4.2 non-turbo - recommended spares?

I'm the new owner of a very tidy but high-mileage (300K km) LC76. Having come from the Dark Side, I am used to carrying an ammo box of spares "just in case" :-)

Now, perhaps all I need these days is my Swiss Army Knife and a roll of string, but are there any spares handy to carry for this vehicle?

Got the new CAA plate, too!

I think the big thing would rather be preventative maintenance than carrying spares.

    Bearings
    Clutch
    Altenator
    Water Pump

If its got a good service history those are the vehicles that you actually can buy with 300k on the clock

IMHO...just a decent set of tools, a set of various type and size fuses amd that is about it...

as above, not much that can go wrong with the non turbo 4.2 if properly maintained, especially when it has such low km on. I would sort out those tyres though.

Nobody really stocks water pipes anymore , and get length of heater hose sized pipe as well, rest of it is pretty much available everywhere. Also never be tempted by the turbo conversions out there.

I would have the R151 gearbox checked by someone like Jan Slabber. Other than that only stuff to sort out punctures.
If you think that tools is needed the basic Toyota kit that comes OEM with the Cruiser will be enough. In anyway you will only need spanners/ sockets with sizes 10, 12, 14, 17, 19.

Snap Crackle Pop sounds in a Cruiser means you are offroading in other vehicles it means you go nowhere.

    Enjoy the 76.

I'd say the normal overland items:

    - silicon self-sealing tape
    - various size clamps
    - super glue
    - JB weld or similar
    - small multi-bit screwdriver/socket set
    - cable ties
    - bloudraad
    - pliers and side cutters
    - maybe some belts
    - filters
    - oil and ATF and brake fluid

The biggest issue with part time use vehicles is the lurking issues: I'd ALWAYS drive the vehicle to work for a week before a trip: nothing is better then being in stop-start driving to test a vehicle and to get you to listen and understand any noises.

Congratulations, pretty much bullet proof all round. as mentioned before, besides regular services the only spares I have in my 76 is a set of fan belts.
    +1 on what Grips said.

    Very nice!

I need to swap the driving lamps for LEDs and also find some small ones to fill the round holes in the bumper.

My previous 4X4 had space for a second spare on the bonnet. I've looked into the double swing-aways on the back, but it's a lot of money for very little reward. The previous owner used to remove the rear seat for trips and I will probably do so as well. I think I will find space for a 2nd spare inside - maybe under a platform. And yes, I have used both in one day in the past

Grips that is very good advise , we all know the troubles with the R151 .
We had many phone calls from over the border " my gearbox is broken"

They are bulletproof. Some older models in our area past the 300k km mark still with original injectors.
