Default Wheel weight - Ford Ranger

I recently changed the wheels on my Ranger Wildtrak. Went from 265/60R18 to 255/70R16. Both had the same model Continental tire on. Made quite a difference in the ride quality and fuel consumption.
This was expected as the sidewall was now 11.1% higher (178mm vs 160mm), and the circumference was 1.3% less (2398mm vs 2433mm).
When I swapped them back I decided to weigh them. 26kg-ish for the 16inch and just above 31kg for the 18inch, that is 20% more unsprung weight per wheel.
I am guessing the ride quality and fuel saving is as much related to the weight as to the other factors.

Very interesting, I recall reading in one of the American magazines that a bigger wheel vs tyre combo (lower sidewall) is normally lighter so good to see that this is not always the case.
