    Default Recording phone calls

Hi All, I'm sure there are people that record all their calls. one never knows when you may need to refer back to something. Companies do it for this reason. Is there anyone that is using an app that successfully does this. There are so many apps out there and they all promise the world but don't deliver. Who can recommend an app?

It would help to know what mobile device you are using. If Android, I highly recommend ACR.

You can also look at Drupe as a call /contact manager which has call recording built into it.

In the latest Android update called Pie - they blocked call recording.

After the update my Note 9 failed to record the other persons voice.

ACR is the only app afaik that still works with PIE - my Note included.

n Android Pie they only blocked the call identification for call recordings, e.g. you can still have calls recorded, but you would then have to manually add the caller's name or number, which previously was done by the app.
Call Recorder also works without problems.

Just to double-check, one us not legally obliged to inform the other person that the call is being recorded?

Does anybody know the legal ramifications of recording a phonecall without informing the other party.
Banks, insurers, etc inform you that the call is being recorded, is this a legal requirement?

Are you infringing on the callers rights by not informing them?
Can you actually USE the recording for anything other than proving a point?
Can the other party charge you under the right to privacy act?

I always thought it would be mandatory to inform the other party, otherwise the recording would be worthless at best. But it seems not really the case, see here:

I am guessing here, but in this case I would say because the recording is done by a 3rd party it needs to be announced.

No recording apps work on Android 9. The only way to record the other party is to have the call on speaker.

Recording a 1 on 1 call is perfectly legal in SA as only one party need to provide consent (you). If more than one party only, one party has to provide written consent to the recording (you) or inform the other parties that it is being recorded.

Thanks for that info... that is a deal breaker for me. I'll have to keep an eye open to see how it gets fixed.

I am no legal expert. However, did an internal course on discipline, and it was also confirmed that you may record a conversation that you are part of. Only if you are reasonably expected not to be part of the conversation may you not record it.
