Default Advice please Northern Namibia April 2020

Firstly thank you very much for assisting me in planning our first visit to Northern Namibia.

I realise April is popular time to visit and I need to book NOW. As we will be in Henties Bay with children, date fixed, I have to work from there. We would like to do self catering chalet trip as we will be moving fairly frequently and do not want to spend time in putting up or breaking down camp (and Swambo is not a keen camper). We would like to work our way towards Kasane for a photography get together and from there back home.

Our planned itinerary is as follows:

    Depart Henties 31 March 2020
    Etosha 4 or 5 nights
En-route Etosha to Kasane 6 or 7 nights
    Kasane 5 nights

I need some suggestions regarding must see / stay over places on the Etosha to Kasane leg. We don't mind gravel but with Swambo do not want to do the total off-road thing.

    Regards

    My thoughts:
    - Depart Henties
    - 1 night at Twyfelfontein Country Lodge
    Explore Damaraland
    - 1 night at Oppikoppi in Kamanjab
    Enter Etosha at Galton Gate
    - 1 night Dolomoite
    - 1 night Okaukuejo Resort
    - 1 night Halali Resort
    Exit Etosha at Namutoni Gate
    - 1 night in Tsumeb at Kupferquelle Resort
    - 2/3 nights at Nunda Riverside Lodge
    Explore Mahango NP
    - 2/3 nights at Nambwe Lodge
    Explore Mudomo NP
    - 1 night at Muchenje
Game Drive thru Chobe NP to Kasane
    - 2 nights at Chobe Safari Lodge in Kasane
Lunch on river & cruise with Flame of Africa
    Buffet dinner at Lodge
    - 3 nights at Senyati Safari Camp:
Self drive at night along Zim border (just behind Senyati camp)
Take Senyati’s minibus and visit Vic Falls for a day

We basically did this trip in reverse in early Jan. 3 nights in Etosha spread between the camps is more than enough. I recommend you have a long drive day (on tar) and entirely miss out Rundu area - spend the time exploring Caprivi instead!

    Hi Tobie,

We explored a bit of Caprivi and Kasane area during December 18. Two spots I can recommend are Rainbow River Lodge, near Divundu, (from were you can visit Buffalo Core and Mahango) and then Senyati, near Kasane. This should cover at least 4 of the 6-7 days you are concerned about.

Dale, thanks I will look at your proposed itinerary. The Kasane 5 nights are fixed (photography trip on river) but will plan around it.

You can try Mokuti Lodge just outside Namutoni gate. Very reasonable prices for what you get.

If you've never been to Twyfelfontein, and have any interest in rock art, the petroglyphs there are a stunning open air gallery of Stone Age (about 6,000 years old) art. Camp at Aba Huab or one of the other camps in the area. Reasonable chance of seeing elephants in the Aba Huab River.

    Agree with Nunda.
Nambwa very expensive. Other options available along the Kwando.
Consider visiting Nkasa Lupala and exploring Nkasa Rupara NP.

    Enjoy the Pangolin experience.
