    Default Fridge Confusion

    Hi,

Was hoping to get some advice from the "experts". I Bought a Jurgens XT140 last year (Makes me happy every time I say this). the trailer came with a 90l fridge/freezer, but on 220v. Now my question goes around I want to replace this fridge/freeze, with a 50+ liter fridge freezer and am busy keeping an eye out for a decent secondhand unit.

Currently I am considering looking for a Waeco CF50 or a Snomaster 65, would like a dual compartment, but trying to keep in touch with my budget. Busy bidding on a Waeco CF50, but feel like the Snomaster would be better value for money as I am not paying 40% of the value towards a brand.

Please feel free to guide a new comer in the camping fridge/freezer world.

I got the SnowMaster 66l dual in 2015. It is permanently running, keeps my beers cold and my excess frozen foodstuff safe. No problems to date.

Got a "keep in cool place" Chinese version that has served me very well for more than 10yrs now.

Only problem is that I am committed to the fridge freezer arrangement.

Either buy 2 x smaller units, or a dual controller unit.

Snomasters come up reasonably regularly on Takealot's daily deals, priced quite well.
Just keen an eye there for a bit.

Also you can sometimes pick up good secondhand deals at fair prices. Through the years I bought 3 secondhand fridges, with no hassles. Obviously that does not guarantee all secondhand deals are hassle-free, but keep them in mind too. Just always compare prices to what is available new.

If you order from Snomaster directly you will get a good price plus free delivery.

Sometimes they do have second hands/demo/damaged units available.

Try to get hold of Johan and talk to him about your budget and needs.

I got the 60l single and its a great fridge but my next fridge will definitely be a dual compartment.

I have a 60L snomaster and a 90L NL dual. The NL came std in my van. I find that I us the NL as a fridge on both sides most of the time. Food on one side and drinks on the other. I find that small capacity twins are to small. If it wasn't for the fact that I have a large twin I would go 2x smaller units. Before the twin I used my 60L in my trailer and a 40L in my car

If you can afford it (money and space wise) two seperate fridges (one fridge, one freezer) has always worked better for me.

Currently my mind is set on https://snomaster.co.za/shop/camping...portable-80lt/ I really though i liked the idea of a dual compartment, but they are very expensive. They are on Takealot for R7999 and hopefully they will be in the Snomaster 15 year anniversary special tomorrow. Though about getting something smaller, but recalled that my current 70l is almost to small for me.

So, new problem. The SnoMaster 80l does not fit in my Jurgens XT140. Luckily SnoMaster was kind enough to agree to exchange it for the 60l duel or 65l single for me. I like the idea of the dual comparments, but 65l is just bigger.

A 60L duel I believe is to small to be useful. A 24L freezer is fine for weekend meat but 28L fridge is way to small. Personally I would take a single compartment as it is a good size fridge for every day usage and extended holidays. If you need a freezer from time to time rather purchase a 2nd smaller fridge for that reason. You can look at a 35L and fit to your vehicle. Even look at a cf50 as they are also very cheap and are always on a good special

So I settled on the SnoMaster TR82D, it fits perfectly into my Trailer (Jurgens XT140) and is a dual compartment with enough space as it is a 42.5 and 40 liter split.

We are manufactures of dual battery systems and therefore did lots of tests on the different fridges and there battery usage. NL, SNOMASTER AND ENGEL have the same consumption but Waeco has about a 40% more battery usage. To give you a practical example, NL, SM AND ENGEL gave us 32 hours on a specific battery and Waeco gave us 22 hours on that exact battery. Quality wise the Waeco is good. Waeco is lately Dometic, the Waeco name is gone.
