Default 81 Jeep CJ 7 rebuild

I bought this CJ 7 aka Pukey last year for roughly 38K, even before I had the key had to fork out about 7K for a gearbox issue the previous owner had and just never installed

    just a few warnings...

This is by no means a restoration but I like to keep things original
Amateur is a word you would think and scream a lot in this thread - but rather just give me the "that's a "A" for effort but THIS is what you should have done.."
My budget is "wat mamma sÍ dit is" so no fancy or expensive things
This thread may take a month or two...

There are too many friends, family and forum members to thank, so if I missed you or owe a beer just give a shout and if you are local and want to help or bring a beer please do so!

This forum has helped me so much and your advice and message do help a lot!

    This is the starting point!

One of the first things to sort was a quick service and then the issue with the carb https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...-7-carburetor?

Had Pukey and the best carb guy I know, and it came back sounding like one of those hit and miss lister engines... so some self tune and guidance we actually got her going(ish)

next on the list was the easy stuff, sides steps etc..

starting the new door panels --- one thing that I always do to ensure door panels last is to add resin and fiberglass to the back part where the glass could introduce moisture.

small weekend update - feels like we didn't do much but we started at 8 and only finished at about 5 - some seam sealer and removal of the old fuel hard line... sound great until you remember imperial and metric sockets

I'm looking for back lights, found one, the guy said he only has the one (https://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/...deId=414292052) but I know for a fact that the two will the look different.

Does anybody know where I could get a set? The CJ YJ and TJ all had the same!

this would be the alternative https://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/4143..._TJ_CJ_YJ.html

That's brilliant Jakes, all the very best with the electricery..!!
Every dog has its day, and those with broken tails have their weak-ends...

    1976 CJ-7, 400CI + Holley EFI, Tera-Low 3,15:1 twin stick, ARB's front & rear, oil leaks & plenty more....

All my other petrol burners are boring....
