First major failure

Heard a noise upfront. Inspected and found the front propshaft CV is letting go. The one that goes from Transfer case to front diff. It has a UJ on the one end and CV on the other.

Send in for refurb last week Tuesday. Still waiting. Quote of R3500.00

Just had the front prop refurbed

Another curve ball. Dreaded abs pump screech. Swapped out pressure sensor and accumulator. Problem persists.

Following workshop diagnosis, the problem is the pump body itself.

Cheapest quote so far is R16k for a 2nd hand unit.

Parthunt came to the rescue.

Not cheap but a decent price and the part is still in the car so dirt ingress is practically non existent.

Paid them and the courier

two minutes later someone whatsapps me with a part that looks brand new at 10th of the price.

I reckon it's a scammer

I aksed him for a picture of the part with a paper next to it with my name on. Will see what happens. I'm 99% sure it's a scam.

If I google his company the address doesn't match up. Phoned google's number on the company and they don't have the part or recognise the seller.

Where is his company supposed to be based? Someone on the forum will live close by and can verify?

Have you had the brake fluid's viscosity tested? My ABS screech on my Gen 4 went away after replacing the brake fluid. As far as I'm aware, the ABS module failure was a Gen 3 issue.

My fluid was basically new, I did brakes and a piston refurb shortly before failure and flushed a good bit of new fluid through the system.

Heard a noise like a wheel bearing

Disconnected propshaft to eliminate a bad shaft
Jacked up right side noise still there when spinning the wheel
Jacked up left side and noise disappears

Noise while driving is like wheel bearing noise - can't make the noise change with weaving or the accelerator

Fluid is clean with no metal flakes on the magnetic drain plug. Level is good.

I suspect the right carrier bearing inside the diff.

Common failure point?

Car does a lot of bad gravel, and is on 340'000km.

Bearings are cheap, but taking the diff out means stripping both rear hubs to get the side shafts out.

Tomorrow I pick up my 2007 Pajero Gen 4 GLX.
Now I need to study this forum thread like it was exam prep.
