Default Snake ID please - Near Bela Bela

    Hi all,

Found this guy on a walk through the bushveld yesterday.

Upper body seemed to be dark grey with a blueish tint.

    Very light belly.

    Darker heard.

Black bands over its eyes running long ways.

    Thanks

Based on the shape of the head it looks like a black mamba. Also the light underbody. Also the mamba can vary from brown, grey, blue to very black. Quite risky to get so close as you did to take this picture and poison is potent from when they are born.

    Agreed
If you make a noise or need music in the bush or on the beach, you’re missing the point.

As I read this I felt a definite increase in heart rate. Although I wasn't as close as it may look.

I wasn't too concerned about it being a mamba as I thought them to be bigger as young snakes with darker colouring. Any experts care to advise me on this?

Thanks to everyone that replied. Glad it was a Rooilippie and not a Mamba.
