Well..........just spoke to my two eldest kids, they're at Lush in Clarens.

Its raining cats and dogs there.

The little vantjie sounds dry, and they're enjoying it immensely............sleeping high, dry and mighty, looking down on all the poor sods around them in their tents

I cant wait to have it back, want to do the lekker stuff next week........:

    INTERIOR

    1) Sort those lift up boards under the mattresses........................................ .................................................. ...DONE
    2) Clad the frame fronts with alu chequered plate............................................. ...............................................DONE
    3) Sort that front window with an alu square frame, and get canvas utility pockets in there...................................DONE
    4) Remove all cupboard/cabinet doors, replace with canvas............................................ ...................................DONE
    5) Utilise the door for canvas utility bags for cutlery, maybe crockery too, braai stuff, etc etc. I'm actually considering utilising the whole door "real esate", as Henk puts it, for this. I dont want to get in and out the whole time to get to stuff............................................. ..........TO DO
    6) Small utility "box" at the front bed for cell phones, keys, etc etc - there's a 10cm space available next to the 3/4 mattress..TO DO
    7) Clad wheel arches with veneer - I'm not happy with the sloppy look, even though they will be "hidden" in the cupboards...TO DO
Decide on what fridge to use. 12 volt Double Door or a "flip up" National Luna.............................................. ...DONE
    9) VERY sturdy frame for said fridge. This is where the lower National Luna is a huge advantage, no tall fridge swaying around........TO DO
    10) Wire up 220volt to inside multi plug, and outside multi plug. That's the ONLY 220v I want...............................DONE
    11) Charger and DC Battery hidden under Cupboard, on axle.............................................. ..............................TO DO
    12) 2 x Lumeno LED's on roof, remove existing ones. Also one LED outside. And 2 smaller ones at the rear bed for reading.....TO DO
    13) Solar input at existing 220v input to quick connect solar panels............................................ ..........................TO DO
    14) Remove ALL existing wiring, coupler wires included, and re-wire from afresh. Nice , tidy and hidden as much as possible........TO DO
    15) Decide...........re-do the existing (nice-ish) wooden veneer inside, or paint. I''l probably paint for a new fresh funky look.
    16) Curtain rails or blinds. I'm leaning towards blinds I think, permanently fixed, just open or close the thing as we want................TO DO
    17) Extra cupboard next to the fridge. Alu frame, very thin wood, cover with canvas............................................ .....TO DO
1 Cover existing cupboard with canvas, also with zipped canvas door. I want all cupboards/cabinets to look the same...............TO DO
    19) Same with existing little booze cabinet - canvas covered, zipped front. This can become a bathroom cabinet thing for the females..TO DO
    20) (edit) - I'll probably also like an extra LED here and there inside a cupboard/cabinet here and there
    21) Replace old window handles/plastic thingies.......................................... .................................................. .............DONE
    22) New Door Stop, same as Xplorer........................................... .................................................. ............................DONE

I think that's about that. I'll get to the exterior later, and also the chassis - but not really much to do there. I may want to get it a bit of a lift. And replace those wheel spats with something blacker/bolder.

    Hi Petri,
This is what we did on the BL-Kewer.
First had it at the back and it did not work, moved the strip to the front but not all the way.
Used 3 mm LED's, the 5 mm were to bright, found that they must be about 10-20 mm away from the front edge else it sort of blinds you when you stand in front of it.
Suggest you play around with it a bit before permanently fixing it (was a bit of a job getting it off and stuck back on again x 3 before final try #4)
Just place the switch where you can easily reach it and don't bump it when you place items in the cupboards, moved ours out of harm inside.

Those canvas baggies - something like this (in yellow). For magazines, maybe a cellphone, charger, etc etc - stuff like that

Nice open and big space underneath the front bed. I'll decide if I want compartments there, and where.

Lid is easy to lift, and lift wide open. Had to cut a corner away though, for the little kassie that's in the way. Nothing serious.

That's all for now Folks.........next week I'll tackle that rear bed and finish that off.

Nice, put the corner you cut off on the bed frame and secure.

Rear bed is in. Nice and huge, 150 x 187cm. Huge space underneath for soft stuff.

Had to re-cut the "fixed" part......the larger lid did'nt fit through the door........another lesson quickly learnt in the exciting world of caravan renovations..........whatever you do, first see if it fits through the door, or do it inside

I'm thinking either alu plate at the front.........but also have a sort of idea here. Webbing....?? Nice, strong, light, and you can see what's packed underneath. I think webbing could be something different.

Maybe attached with hooks to the frame, so that you can remove it if necessary to take out something without lifting the lid.

Lid will HAVE to get shocks - its a moerofa heavy mattress.

Space along the bed is VERY small.......but yes. I was actually thinking of making it one full width bed, but no. Maybe even some sort of bedside canvassy kassie thingy, for magazines/phones/attachment points for reading lights/Marlboro's

We'd still be able to sit on the mattress' edge for getting our PJ's on........or off

Why not extend the fixed part of the base to the edges and you have your bedside table, with additional space under it?...

And definitely painting the veneer.......HUGE job, I'd have to fill up all the bad spots/old screw holes/angles and finish of to get a smooooooth finish.

Also removed the brown strips, I'm thinking light grey (almost white) with a bit darker finish strips.

I think it would look nice with an alu chequered plate here and there, maybe a piece of webbing under the beds, etc etc etc, and "vrolike" blinds, something light with blueish/greyish/maybe even redish stripes.

    I want funky and functional.

This is my sort of idea with the canvas fronts.

VERY graphic artwork, definitely not for sensitive viewers

Exactly like that, and you score a bit more pakplek under the table, too.
Maybe close the front and sides and hinge the top to flip up?
