Default What do you use your Hella plug point for?

After my recent overland trip I just wonder what the other forumites use their Hellla plug points for?
I have got 3 points on the vehicle ( two inside and one outside )
I have got 5 on the trailer ( one designated for the fridge near the slide inside, two external and two internal)

I have thought about this before but cant think of any other accesories to be used with a 12v Hella outlet.
I use a fridge in the trailer and sometimes in the vehicle, a Hella USB charger, a little hairdryer for the wife and a 12V waterpump to move water from Jerry cans into the trailer tank.

What do you use your Hella power points for?
    Cheers

I use mine for an inverter in the car. Also for a lead light. It is just better than a lighter plug.

Red face Re: What do you use your Hella plug point for?

I hear what Gothan says about when more amp using accesories should be coupled with BH plugs. Because they allow for a thicker wire. I think a Hella is too small to use for a solar panel Dirtshark?
The wire into the male Hella and the wire from tge female Hella on my fridge is the same size that is why I stick to it but my solar panel is connected with thicker wire which the Hella does not allow.
It seems that there are just a few 12V accesories to use?
Anybody have a 12 fan? I have the points but noting to plug into them it seems?

I have 3m of 4mm from the 100w panel into the male Hella (genuine Hella) and a bulkhead female on the outside of the trailer with about half a meter 4mm direct to the solar controller on the inside with the battery. Worked 100% for a week in the Tankwa off grid running freezer, waterpump, lighting, charging etc.....negligible volt drop.
Used it on some shorter trips see well, no problem

Yes I agree 4mm wire is sufficient for a fridge and solar charge. I also have that setup on my fridge. You must admit that a 4mm wire is the thickest a Hella will allow to fit into it?

Come on campers give me some ideas of accesories I can fit into my Hella holes

I don't like Hella plugs at all. They just get used for LED lights, the rest of the stuff like fridge gets changed to BH.
I don't drink water, unless it's been through a brewery first.

Hella for LED ligts and a lead light, no other use.

Grey BH for load e.g. Fridge, pump etc.
    Red BH for Alternator input
Blue BH for solar to the van and power pack.
Solar panels are mounted on top and removable to use on the ground.
The panels come with solar connectors, my 18 m lead has Blue BH one side and Solar connector other side for ease of use.

I started this thread and I want to give my verdict.

Hella plugs are for light (not heavy duty) applications. Something that is plugged in when needed the plugged out and stored. Hella is not for stuff that is permanently plugged in. It just does not last.

I tried it on the fridge and it gave us so much problems. I changed it to Anderson.

    Good for quick coupling.

I cut it off my fridge and threw it out. Was to unreliable. I replaced it with a mini Harrison plug. That was more than 10 years ago and has never failed me. It is same plug, I first had it on my 74lt NL double door, now it is in use on my new 90 lt NL double door Weekender.

Same here. For some reason they lose connection and become unrelliable. I only use two of these for led light connections in the canopy. Fridge, inverter and compressor are on Anderson plugs.
