    Default i20 tailgate gas lifts/cylinders.

    Good morning.

Anyone know where to find replacement gas lifts for the i20, except at the agents? They quoted R1200 a piece....

Ons local Midas het 'n verskeie reeks. As hulle nie stock het nie laat maak hulle vir jou 'n stel op. Vat net 'n sample saam.

Your local Gabriel Gaslift dealer . https://gabriel.co.za/wp/?page_id=210

Take the vehicle and the sample. Be sure they get the pressure right. 250NM (the default for rear flip-up doors) is not enough for my Cruiser.

Your local trailer/caravan spares shop. Will cost about R200-00 each.

As said, take a sample with.

have same car and had same issue. Got a set from Midas and it lasted a year. So I am starting to thing that the R2k cost at dealers may just be cheaper in the long run! Do take note, the new set is SLIGHTLY longer, enough that we did not notice it when fitting, but enough that the hatch opens further ever so slightly so that the hatch scratches the roof now. Got a nice thick scratch now.... (also, had to butcher the original fittings to make the new Gabriels work, so its not a straight fit, but possible)

If they only lasted a year you perhaps got struts with insufficient pressure for the weight of the hatch, they generally last a good few years at minimum before they start gradually failing.
