    Default DIY Canopy Build

    Hi

I decided to make a canopy for our family 4x4 trips and "homework".

I made the frame from steel because at the time I could not weld aluminium. I also wanted it strong to load stuff on top.

I installed rubbers around the door frames to keep out the rain and locks on the doors. I pop riveted alu square tube to the rear door to stiffen it.

I removed the AC motor from this 10L compressor and bolted this DC compressor onto the tank and wired to the existing pressure switch.
I ran a pipe to the other side with quick connector for convenience.
Besides pumping the wheels after 4x4ing it comes in handy for pumping the bicycle wheels before hitting the trails,
but mostly for boasting to other 4x4 enthusiasts "inbuilt compressor whoooo"

I installed LED strip lights but didn't realize I had bought the purple ones. You can't see nothing but it's nice to set a mood.

I bolted the legs in place and used a straight edge from the roof rack on the canopy to mark the height of the legs.

The roof racks line up perfectly. The front one causes vibration and wind noise when going over 100km\h so I remove it when I'm done using it.

The heart break begins. I wanted the canopy roof to be at the same level as the bakkie roof so I welded the roll bar to the table to lower it to fit under the canopy.

Here is the canopy and roof racks in action when I redid my ceilings (homework).

It's not the nices looking canopy but overall it does the job, is robust, didn't cost as much as buying one and I enjoyed the build.

Well done, it looks awesome. Nice to see what can be done at a fraction of the cost compared to the "off-the-shelf" ones.
I am also busy with my project, building my DIY camping canopy. Will post some pics....

UPDATES: Pics of canopy fitted on the Rok. Fits very well. a Few minor changes, but otherwise VERY happy!
