    Lightbulb Gas oven camping

Good day everyone, Im looking to fit one of those gas oven/hob combos into my offroad trailer.
Im busy making a slide out drawer with a basin and the oven thing.

After a lifetime of camping, we never thought of cooking anything in an oven.
Had an oven in our first Musketeer van, heated a pie and never opened it again...

Thanks Swambo saw it and wanted a setup like that. So its either just the stove or the combo thing.

We have the Kexin oven and stove combo as in this link. We got ours at giveitgas but I see its no longer on their website
    http://gridwise.co.za/product/campin...-oven-combo-1/

If you or your wife love cooking and baking then it is a awesome piece of equipment. My wife loves baking and she will make a lasagne the day before we leave and then when we get to the campsite will stick it in the oven to cook while we set up. Also nothing better than fresh hot scones in the morning for breakfast or a nice hot loaf of bread. It actually bakes better than our big gas oven at home.

My Swambo also saw it, and when the Kexin stoves were still available, she was not sure. January I phoned everyone I could find, but they are no longer imported.

Alva's look exactly the same. I do have a Italian Joia for many many moons, if my stomach could talk ......as the name states Joy. Everybody go camping....as I understand it, you wont sleep at home tonight in your bed. Camping to me mean I wont see other people and no shop around the corner. Please buy your oven you will enjoy it. It so small and light you will love it.

You missed out on the BEST function, a winter sleepover somewhere in the Drakensberg in freezing cold just open the oven door and ignite...warms the caravan in two ticks.

Duncan has some seriously good advice there, unless you are a baking fundi think twice, it is a heavy white elephant that gobbles prime user space

We do not use gas oven for travelling but at the cottage we do so. Oven is a gas braai with temperature gauge. Our braai is big Chines job. I do not know how the small gas Weber would work. Alternatively handy man can build one wood fired out of sheet metal where the parts can be put together as flat items. It will need thermometer. Instead of wood handyman can also build gas operated.

The last option is a clay oven. Needs a spade and suitable ground

The dual functionality of a small Weber Q1200 may serve you well. I have baked in it's bigger brother Q220 and done roasts in it including glazing Gammon with Marula Jelly. On the minimum gas setting it is too hot but I use a wedge to open the lid a little to control the temperature. They are not cheap and take space,as will you oven. Remove the foldable tables on either side an it will be compact, you don't have a cooker thoough.

I have a small gas oven with two plate cooker like that that is in perfect nick that I plan getting going for own use, it is in my caravan at the Vaal Dam.

Phone caravan dealers, the older vans had these installed, they are great. They are about the size of an ice maker so they do take space.

Curiously what do you plan using the oven for (more detail than "baking" would help?

A smoker can also be used as an oven.

Hi Wouter, I bought it 8 years ago from Take2, now Takealot

It is always in my caravan and I simply put it on the gas burner in my caravan and it works 100%

We only use the small Webber Gas Braai, My wife does all her baking in that, cakes, bread scones, roasts. warming precooked meals, and then of course the normal braai. Multi purpose.
Just a thought to throw out there.

With load shedding, I yearn for that old two plate gas oven and griller they fitted to the old caravans. I would love one for home use! WE used to roast a whole chicken in it or make a loaf of bread. Most home ovens are oversized for normal use.

Slightly off the original topic but gas oven related. We have just completed renovations of our kitchen at home. I had converted to a gas stove and oven about 6 years ago when I bought the house but it was a very basic model. It didn't have the gas safety shut off, light or any electrical connection. I really battled to find a gas stove with a full gas oven. One of the few available is the AEG that even has a rotisserie and fan. We have done some roasts and baking in the oven with fantastic results. With load shedding again we don't have to worry about cooking when the power is off and we save a fortune in electricity.
