    Default Quick WRMD question

    Hello all
Busy with a dual battery install, and have purchased WRMD charger.
Instructions say to install unit vertically - ie with wires running downwards out of unit..
I have built battery box with a side to do this...

Only problem is, with unit installed like this, there is no way I will ever be able to see what indicator lights are doing..
Battery is located in engine bay
I'm considering installing the unit sideways - wires running horizontally out, or simply sitting flat on top of second battery?
    Any thoughts on this?

I think vertically is just a practical suggestion. Would like to hear any reason not to mount it in any other way.

I have seen the unit mounted sideways in a camping trailer, worked just fine. I too see no reason why it would be a problem, it's just an electronic device

Mine is mounted upside down in my battery box. It just makes more sense for me to run the wiring like that and I have not had a moments trouble from it.

It is always in the Patrol keeping the battery topped up. The fridge works a few times every month and no problems.

Perhaps they want it right side up to protect against water penetration.

I was a typical male and didn't bother reading the manual so I didn't see that part.

Can only presume thats to keep water from coming in the top, or to let heat rise out of the top.

Water seems more likely but then its not a waterproof system so who knows.

    Thanks all for the input..
Water pentration also occurred to me, but its sitting pretty high up, just below bonnet, so hopefully ok..
I've gone with a sideways mount, but have space to change it..
Just didn't make sense to not be able to see the indicator lights

Mine has been mounted sideways in the engine compartment just below the bonnet for over a year now and works perfectly. The only thing that has happened is that the label is starting to peel. As far as I am aware it is waterproof.
